[Observer] Tuition increases 7 percent

The bill for undergraduate students to attend Notre Dame just got a little steeper - $2,622 steeper, to be exact - thanks to the 7 percent increase in tuition for the 2005-06 school year, announced by the University on Thursday. Combined total costs will be $39,552, broken down into $31,542 for tuition and fees and $8,010 for average room and board, according to a University press release.

ND's tuition is absurd. It is 4k more expensive than Harvard and 2k more expensive than MIT. They have jacked it up so high because housing costs remain low in Indiana. Hence, the total cost of ND is still less than that of many top schools. This is supply-and-demand theory in action, but make no mistake: ND is pulling a sizable profit from this 'tuition.'

Do you not have a GI Bill? They'll cover anyplace you get into, won't they?

the government only sends you a monthly check when you get gi bill checks. it doesnt pay all your tuition, they just send you a check and you spend on what you need, ie, tuition, books, rent, food, beer. when i was in school, i got 1065.00 a month, but as you know tuition is so high, so i worked as a bartender. i had to pay rent, tuition, books and everything else.

Yeah and I think it also lasts for only three years. Why three years I do not know.

It will pay about 90-95% of tuition if I went to some suck ass school like FSU, but who the hell wants to go there?

The good thing is I am in a JC now, so when I transfer to a really good school, hopefully ND, I will only have to pay for 2 years of University tuition.

Im sure ND accepts JC transfers for only academics right? I know they do not take them for Football. Does anybody know for sure?

I would try and talk to people at admissions and in the psychology department to find out what they want/think/need. If they really want you in, they can tell you how to get in. But it is very difficult to get into ND from a 2-year college. Almost all transfers come from 4-year colleges. Holy Cross was a 2-year college, and that is the only place I ever met transfers from.

What kind of pyschology? I could direct you to one professor I somewhat know. He is certainly very approachable (he deals with marital discord and clinical psychology).

Yes, that would be awesome to have a contact at ND. I have been meaning to get on the website and find out when I would need to send in an application.
I was going to post a thread and try to see if any of the alumni had any tips to getting in.

I want to study clinical psychology and if possible maybe have a dual major. The other being philosophy with logic as being the emphasis.

I just got out of the Army jan 17, and this is my first semester at the JC. I should finish up in December. I had some college credits from night classes attended while in the Army.

That would suck if I couldn't go to ND.

yeah it does suck. i applied when i was getting out of the marines and didnt get in. i thought my grades in high school were good and my s.a.t. scores were really good, so i thought maybe i had a 30-40% chance. but i got turned down, and it came down to the 2 schools i got into, tOSU, and WVU. i had friends from the military going to tOSU so i decided to go to columbus.
