Moving to Charlotte, NC - help

Hey guys, a bit random but I am about to graduate with a BA in Marketing. I am from northern Kentucky and looking to move to Charlotte, NC. I have read reviews about the city online but most threads on yahoo and google are filled with real-estate agents so I thought I could possibly get the honest opinion of my peers here.

I am 24, Republican, and I love good craft beers. Also, I would like to be very close to downtown. I heard uptown is nice. Any insight as to which areas I might like? What is the city like in general? Thanks!

Irish In KY, my girlfriends sister currently lives in Charlotte and me and my girlfriend visited her this spring and I have to say it is an awesome city. It is very clean and many people are very friendly. Many apartments and houses seem to be relatively cheap and new. The Carolina Panthers, Bobcats and a Triple A baseball team are also in Charlotte, so there are plenty of sports teams to go watch and cheer for. I personally would love to move there eventually.

Asheville, which is about two hours west, is the two time beer capital of the USA. It has edged out Portland the past two years, or so I have been told. I live in Hendersonville. Haven't been to Charlotte much, but hear pretty good things.

I have been to Charlotte numerous times to visit a college buddy who went there after school for a job. He works at ADP down there now. Beautiful, young, energetic city. You will have a good time. The only thing that kept me from moving down there with him is the damn heat. My goodness it is so hot.

Anyway, he lives in Pinesville just outside Charlotte near Ballentyne. Very nice place and Ballentyne is awesome. I would recommend those cities. My other buddy lived in Matthews. Not bad, lower scale then the others. Cornelius and Mooresville are north of the city and are nice spots. Mooresville is where Lowe's HQ is.

Tons of stuff to do down there. If you're into the spotlight type of stuff for entertainment then The Epicentre is the place to be for you. We always go to The Gin Mill, more low key. Hope this helps a little. Love the city.

I lived down there for 4 years, in a nut shell, your going to want to live south or east of uptown. In general, I would avoid the west side and the university area. If you don't mind commuting, the Lake Norman area north of town is really nice. Charlotte is going through the growing pains that Atlanta did in the 70's-80's, traffic and crime, but overall not a bad place to live at all.

i made 2 movies in wilmington (4 hours east and on the coast) since february. and been in asheville working on "the hunger games" since june. we move to concord (northeast of charlotte) in about 2 weeks.

the only thing i can say, there is plenty of beer in this state. every bar ive been to in all of these cities have had a real good craft selection.

and one other thing....IT'S HOT!!!
