9 verbals already. Incredible. And they're all right in the backyard.

12 for Ole Miss. 9 from in state, 3 from Louisiana.

Early bird gets the worm.

Mack Brown can recruit like none other. It doesn't help that they are in his backyard, but their recruiting now is stronger than at any time in Texas history. He gets them to ten wins every year and now he's won the big one. I think it's safe to give the guy his props now.

hey jiggs were any of those recruits big timers?

He got a WR named Curtis Brown out of Gilmer, TX.

Rivals has him in the Junior Top 100 already.

Weis has about 20 offers out there right now.

Hopefully things will pick up once the Blue and Gold Game rolls around.

I think Mack Brown and Texas are a well-oiled machine right now. They'll be pretty hard to deal with while he's there and it looks like he's there to stay. Add to that the fact that Oklahoma will recover and it will be hard pulling recruits from that area. Plus, have you seen the co-eds at Texas?

Not sure how big their class can be this year, but with 9 verbals he has to be close to half way done.

By the time they play North Texas on September 2nd, they might have a full class already verballed just like a year ago. Awesome.

1.) Now, if you could just teach Mack Brown to coach, but I guess it doesn't matter if you are surrounded by that talent...You are gonna run the table once in a while on sheer talent alone.

2.) I don't know if I would be too impressed with Orgeron, yet. I hear he is taking some pretty suspect guys. Then, again, it is only Ole Miss...They can't expect everyone to have Eli's talent.

Weis has offered at Texas QB named John Chiles. He's a dual threat QB but Weis has told him right up front he wants him as a WR. The kid likes Texas and Florida as well.

He's 6-1, 195 and has that 4.4 speed we all love. He goes to Summit HS in Mansfield, TX. Probably a longshot because he's grown up a big Texas fan and prefers QB, but you never know.

Any of you Envy Texas guys know about this kid?

Got to give him his props. He got a lot of slack these last few years, but does anyone remember how OK was the best team ever a few years ago, and Texas couldn't touch them, and it was all Mack Brown's fault. Amazing how images of coaches change so fast. Hopefully Charlie can roll like he did last year or he could catch a lot of $hit from a ton of people. Not all Notre Dame fans are like us. There are a ton of band wagoners.

If they can lock up Illinois and consistenty pull kids from OHIO not to mention pick up the occasional player here and there accross the country, we will be sittin pretty for a long time.

I love how we got kids from so many different states though, it shows that Weis is respected a ton already and that ND is back as a superpower. If we can just win 9-10 games this year ,if not the NC, our recruiting will explode.

Texas picked up five more verbals this week, including Qb John Chiles and WR Malcolm Williams.

17 verbals total to this point, 16 of whom reside in Texas.

i think Mack is a good recruiter...but it helps that he basically gets his pick of the top texas recruits....if Notre Dame were in a big state like texas, california or florida....i think wies would already have half a class filled out just like mack

Mackovich lost some big names out of Texas to Oklahoma, Nebraska and I believe even a few to ND. It's not as easy as sitting there and collecting the talent. You have to make them believe in the aura of the home town team. Mack recruited well at North Carolina. He knows what he's doing.

That said, yes, there is a major built in advantage for him.

Yeah, but Mack Brown desperately needs a QB. And if he loses Ryan Mallet to us, all that talent will be squandered for a couple of years. Of course, we'll have to see how Pat Bostick compares to Ryan Mallet (Now that Henne is a Junior, we get more QB interest because they'll only have to wait a year).

Good luck on Jimmy Clausen. It look pretty good right now, because I can't imagine him going to USC to compete with John David Booty and Mark Sanchez. The only weakness I see in him is the lineage. He does not come from an accomplished blood line (ie. Casey and Rick were allright but not great)

Victors, if Clausen comes to ND you're going to hear about every one of his weaknesses. I guarantee it. And all the other 116 DI-A schools that didn't get him will point out that he isn't that good, overhyped, etc. And expect groups of ND fans to do this too if he doesn't go to ND. Personally, I look at it as more of a recognition signing than anything else. If he's as good as they say he is and signs with ND, that's something that we just haven't been used to lately....gettting THE guy.

How his talent manifests is a toss up, like it is in just about every case with recruits.

lineage? your not seriously suggesting that a kid's football potential/skills should be evaluated in any way based on how good his brothers were, are you?

Consider this:

Clausen has Rick and Casey as his older brothers.

Matt Simms is the son of Phil and brother of Chris.

Joe Weatherford is the younger brother of Drew.

Mike Paulus is the younger brother of Greg.

All are QBs on Notre Dame's radar screen. Based on lineage, Matt Simms would be your guy because his father and older brother both made it to the NFL.

Now the funny part about that is of these four guys, he's probably my fourth choice.

Though it's tough to say who could be next with the class filling up fast, names like Richetti Jones, Ryan Mallett, Lennon Creer, Blaine Irby, and others are all possiblities.

John Talman from Rivals in an article today.

This is worth mentioning:

21 verbals so far.
9 are in the Rivals 100.
13 are Four Star rated.
3 are Five Star rated.
19 from the state of Texas.

Remarkable.
