Just like everyone on this board, I was a little disappointed of the offense last night. To many pass plays in the 1st half. We needed this scare to happen to us. We needed to know that we werent invincible. This game gave the coaches great video clips to work off to get ready for Penn State.

The Defense was tremendous. They proved that they are not the "weak" part of the team anymore. We didnt blitz the first half and look what happen. You have to put pressure on a mobile QB to win. Im glad Minter got his head out of his ass and realized that the blitz worked. The secordary looked great all night. For the exception of the two big plays. But hey, what do you expect when freshman cover the best WR in the nation?

Sam Young:
Looked very good. I was suprised that he did so well. He only had one false start and corrected himself. The kid is a beast and will help this O-line greatly.

I dont know about you guys/gals, but I want to see Munir Prince get some carries/receptions. I believe this kid has alot of potential to be another great RB out of Notre Dame. He has very good speed and he cuts corners very well.

The game this saturday:

Notre Dame-31
Penn State-21

Well, the defense did look good, everyone agrees on that for the most part. But, one problem that was noticable was the lack of a pass rush. I get the idea we won't be seeing too many improvements on that aspect of the game.

The defense still has a lot to prove, though. I mean, against Michigan last year, they looked great. But the next game, against MSU, they gave up over 40 points, I believe. We give up yards and points when we face good QBs. I don't think Reggie Bush is a good QB. The guy throws more INTs than TDs.

Our defense will be better, but the jury is still out. I definitely think the safety positions are solid now that Ndukwe is a force to be reckoned with. The corners are probably the same... but the addition of Walls and McNeil will allow us to use nickel and dime sets, which means we have a more dynamic defense. So that's a huge improvement.

But, like I said, we need a consistent pass rush, and badly. I'm not trying to sound too pesimistic, I just think that the fan-base in general needs a reality check to prepare itself for the possibility that maybe the defense isn't top 25 yet.

It'll be interesting to see how they perform next week and especially against Michigan. The LBs will be tested then as Hart looked great last Saturday.
