I was watching ESPN tonight and saw a segment w/ Kirk Herbstreit. His upset alert was Purdue over ND, but in the same breath he said that ND can win 7-8 games. If we lose to Purdue how can we come out w/ 7 or 8 wins?? ND hit a bump in the road so I guess everyone jumps off the bandwagon...the bashing of ND (Herstreit was not bashing ND) gets old.

Aside from Lou (God I love Lou!), Herby is the only guy who gives ND a fair shake. Mark May is ridiculous and Pat Forde is a colossal douche. Muck Fark May!!

Picking Purdue to beat ND is not exactly going out on a limb. I think ND is going to blow out the Boilerfakers but it wouldn't be a huge upset.

I can't believe you guys give that oily, ultimate anti-ND reptile Dan Le Batard a pass when you talk about "The Haters".

If I wasn't Catholic, I'd send GO IRISH!!! to Miami with a complement of "personal protection" devices made by the Israelis or Bulgarians, stuff some bail money in his pockets and have him soften that slob up with extreme prejudice.*

SteveM

* Of course with the expectation of a full trip report back to Forum leadership if it should fund the excursion.

We could still pull out 7...we have only lost 1!!!

Purdue could well upset ND, since it's such a close line.

The next GOOD team we play is USC.

Maybe GOOD in a national sense. But compared to the current caliber of a relatively young Irish squad I see plenty of games (if a loss to Purdue does occur) looming for ND that COULD prevent them from getting to 7-8 wins. Standford has the ability to pull a big win on the road (just ask USC last year ... how big of underdog were they?). North Carolina, though young, has played pretty inspiring football early (they wupped Rutgers and lost a close one to Va. Tech, plus it's @ NC). Pittsburgh (though their coach is an unachiever) was ranked at the outset of the season. At BC is never a gimme (they always want to lay one the real Catholic school). Then of course the USC match-up.

Will the Irish hit 7-8 wins this year, yeah I think they will. But on the other hand, there are possibilities (noted above) that it may not happen.

I don't mind Kirk. I actually like the guy. But to call a Purdue win an upset is a stretch. ND is an average team right now. Most of their games will be toss ups IMO. An upset would be Syracuse beating ND. Not Purdue beating ND...

We still play: Stanford, Washington, Pitt, BC, Navy, Syracuse, That is 8 games we SHOULD WIN. UNC is a toss up and USC would take a miracle.

by definition it would be an upset since ND is favored, so I have no problemwith him saying that. remember, he just said ND is on upset alert, not necessarily that they would lose.

I have to say that UNC looks like more of a win with their starting QB out for 6 weeks.

i would love to see us win 8 or 9 games but that might put us in a really high bowl against a team we asre not ready for yet. like a team from the sec

We are totally the underdog in this game. Purdue beat the #18 Ducks last week...we couldn't do that. Why should we feel we should be the favorites against Purdue this week? If we can control the clock, keep Painter off the field and not turn the ball over...sure, we have a chance. Otherwise, we're screwed. Simple as that. I want us to win not only because it would be a win, but because I hate Purdue and Wilford Brimley. But, I gotta say I feel a 14 point loss coming on this one.

WTF you've been smoking? They got beat in OT by the mighty Ducks nearly 2 weeks ago. They eeked one out in the last minute last week against Central Mich. (MAC team w/ a 2-2 record this yr.). All 3 Purdue games have been in their homer dome Ross w/ Aids stadium. It will be a test for them coming to ND for their 1st road game; especially after the Irish took it on the chin last week by Sparty.

Yes, Purdue lost to Oregon. They played them well, but that's because nobody but USC plays "D" in the Pac-10.

I'm very concerned about the expectations of folks on this board. 9-10 wins will take an absolute miracle after last weeks performance. Unless we 1) figure out how to run, 2) spread it out and let our passing game dictate the run, or 3) learn how to stop the run, we will eeeeeeek out at most 6 wins. I'm happy with this, as it gets us in a bowl game that we can be competitive in and potentially win. The gator or BCS bowls are bad ideas this year boys.

As for wins versus Stanford, Washington, Pitt, BC, Navy, Syracuse...I see us winning 3 of the 6, which puts us at 5 wins. Then we have to beat UNC, which will be touch, and USC (which won't happen).

this week is a tough one, i still think we can win it, and then stanford will be a win, navy will be a win, syracuse will be a win, and nc will be a win, pitt and washington should be a win, bc is very winnable.

and call me crazy but i think we can look better than osu did against usc.

toss ups are-purdue, bc, pitt, washington.
wins are-stanford,nc,su,navy
losses are-usc

winning 3-4 of the tossups, and sweeping all of the should wins is doable.

not looking like a bunch of pansy's against usc will be really amazing!

I am so honored you would select me for the job. I would definitely be up for it. After all, the Irish historically did all the muscle work for the mob so you could say it is in my blood. That and lots and lots of Guinness!

GI,

I'm glad you can step up. You are indeed a good, loyal son of ND.

BTW, the trip report... I'm sure ACamp and SoCal would appreciate camouflaging out references to them and the forum.

P.S. I've seen Le Batard on Pardon the Interruption and heard him on ESPN radio. Man, if I ever ask for a Voodoo doll for Christmas, I'll ask for him.

I like Kirk too and I think he is a great analyst, but I didn't agree with what he said. Over the years he has supported ND though.

i dont think we can call any game a sure win. we have not shown that we have the team to make any game a sure win.

i think many are underestimating unc and navy they both have pretty good teams this year. the only game i feel truely comfortable saying we WILL win is syracuse

I just read a new Pat Forde article on ESPN.com. The article was about what advice coaches would give young men around their respective campuses who were about to go out on a date.

For Charlie Weis they said: "If things start going badly just remind her of how lousy her ex was."

I've had it with that dickless asshole taking cheap shots everytime he gets the chance. Like UW is doing so fecking good with Willingham. F*ck Forde and F*CK ESPN.

NDM,

You don't get mad, you get even.

GI, any special ops "equipment" left over from the Le Batard job?

SteveM

P.S. Don't tell me. I don't wanna know...

I don't need equipment....I'll do it with my bare hands. I'll even leave traces of DNA; I want the credit for taking that hack Forde out.

You and GI can hash out who gets the job. I think Luca Brazzi is interested too. As soon as he can extract that ice-pick from his hand...

Maybe Mo Greene could contract out the hit but I hear he's having eye problems. Fredo isn't busy either....he's just swimming.
