The feeling out here from the USC people I talk to is that the QB position is wide open. Mustain is not the shoe-in whatsoever. He hasn't grasped the offense (pro offenses are harder to run than the SEC offense he ran) in 2 years, and now they just hired the former Broncos asst coach to run their offense, which means more new things to learn for Mustain. They say Aaron Corp had the same problems as Mustain, but there was a time that Corp was ahead of Mustain on the depth chart. Corp can run, and you know the Broncos offense featured a ton of bootlegs.
And then you have the x factor, Matt Barkeley, the incoming freshman who has a HOSE for an arm. He was the Gatorade POY as a friggin junior. He struggled at the beginning of this year but was a man amongst boys the 2nd half of the year. Many people think that by midway through the season he'll be starting at QB.
So who knows what USC's offense will be like when they see us? The spring time QB battle will be huge, and then the winner of that one will have to beat out the freshman stud as well in the summer.
If ND is gonna finally break the streak, next year will be a great chance at home...
