I had called and made reservations at the Quality Inn in South Bend (Gipper’s Lounge is part of this hotel) for two rooms in August 2005 for the ND/ PSU game in September of this year. In late August 2006 I received a registered letter from them stating: Due to a computer glitch, your rooms have been cancelled. The hotel was overbooked due to this glitch. We will book you at such and such hotel, which was 45 mins. away and a DUMP!

I was curious whether anyone else received such notification for that game or any other games coming up? Needless to say we were flabbergasted! Three weeks before the game, all hotels sold out in the area. We made this reservation over a year ago, and I even went to the hotel when we were there a few weeks later and confirmed once more that the room was guaranteed to our credit card, and there would be no problem. This was after seeing a sign up at their desk saying PSU weekend was already fully booked.

I was lucky in the fact with much calling around getting one room for our family for that weekend in South Bend. The person I dealt with at that hotel said things at QI had been changing. Apparently they were bought out a bit ago, and then a few months later bought out again.

Not that this is the greatest hotel, but the fact was we had a guaranteed reservation and felt safe in knowing we had a place to stay while we visited our son and went to the game. Just the principal of their deceit floors me! I honestly feel that they didn’t like the rates we and others had (which were NOT cheap) or someone offered more… Just doing a bit of research for my piece of mind…
