Just read that they will be out until mid December do to knee strains. Sucks for us they could have made a huge difference against USC

This is awful to hear. These guys are so important to our team.

This is a great opportunity for Smith and Kamara so lets see if they can step up for us!

Toryan lead the team with 10 tackles and also had the blocked punt return for a TD. I'm not too worried about him. I'm glad Smith or Floyd don't seem to have major knee damage.

Don't kid yourself....I don't think JC--and I'm not talking about Jimmy Clausen--himself could make a difference for us against USC.

of course they would have made a difference. Floyd is always good for some nice catches. Whether those translate into a win or not doesn't mean that those 2 don't make a difference.

But this is a great chance for Toryan and Kamara to step up. Toryan certainly made the most of his first chance Saturday, hopefully he can keep it up.

This is a major blow to our team, but thank God that we have the depth to get by. Toryan Smith may lack Brian Smith's speed, but he is one big LB. He'll help against the run. Kamara lost his confidence early this year, but he can now go get it back. We will get by because of Charlie's excellent recruiting classes, which have given us depth that we haven't had in quite some time.

Sorry guys...without Floyd we do not have a prayer against USC!!!! We only had a slight prayer before but without him Tate will be double teamed all day and we have no homerun guy left. Jimmy throws 5 INT's and we lose 52-10. I am so not looking forward to that game!!!!!

hey, we need to beat Syracuse first. they will enter ND Stadium all full of piss and vinegar and charlie will just do what he has to do to get by instead of flat out burying somebody. i want to see us put up half a hunge this saturday and pitch a shutout on D with manti in the house!

although this game it would be very nice if some senior backups and walk-ons could get some playing time... but not until the game is safely out of reach of course.

Oregon State has a terrific running game. Something we lack.

I think Oregon State would beat us pretty bad too. Who have we beat again? I am confused at how all the sudden we are going to be able to compete with a team that totally buried OSU!!!

Oregon State lost to Stanford, a team that we beat by 7 and it wasnt nearly that close. Nice argument though....

I would hope that everyone is smart enough not to attempt cross-comparison. The whole "we beat them, then they beat them so we should beat them too" phenomenon is the biggest waste of time imaginable. If you need a case-in-point look no further than the 2007 Irish-Stanford-USC relationship:

ND 21-Stanford 14......Stanford 24-USC 23.......so we should beat USC.....good one.....USC 38-ND 0.

I agree using padomernut's logic Nd lost to MSU 23-7, OSU beat MSU 45-7, and USC beat OSU 35-3 so ND should loss to USC 34-6...wait that does make sense.

Hmmm....

No, I don't think so. MSU was 16 points better than we were. OSU was 38 points better than MSU so OSU is 54 points better than we are. USC was 28 points better than OSU, who is 54 points better than we are so.....USC 82-ND 0??

Losing Floyd really hurts my head, and my heart, and everywhere else in my body. My man-crush on him is almost off the charts. What a stud. Really took the wind out of my sails on Saturday. And then to combine that with my favorite defensive player getting injured later on was even worse. But we were still playing great football, esp on d, so I was somewhat enthused. And then the ending came, and well, what a friggin bummer.

Get well soon guys...

I didn't get the game in my area; I did, however, get to enjoy The Care Bears on CBS at 10 a.m. MST on Saturday morning. If anyone wants my hard hitting analysis on this weeks episode just PM me. Fucking fucking CBS.

So, I'm going to venture a guess and say that we didn't blitz against the option attack. I wonder if there's something to that? Maybe we could have our safeties help over the top instead of blitzing every play on defense.

Okay, negativitiy about Tenuta's scheme aside, the defense has played really well the last couple of weeks. If the offense could only compliment them we would be doing really well.

I would like to apologize for any confusion in my post. I was not trying to use the fact that we beat Stanford to show we will beat USC. I was simply trying to refute the argument that Oregon State would beat us pretty good. I just dont think that is true at all. Again, sorry for the confusion.

It's useless to even discuss how we would fare against Oregon State, but it's Monday afternoon and I don't have anything to do....so what makes you think that OSU wouldn't beat us handily?

They are the 21st ranked team in the country. I've watched them play a few times this year and they are a well balanced team with a stud running back in Jacquizz Rodgers. If you think that OSU is small potatoes than I would like to call your attention to the two times we've played them in Bowl Games:

2001 Fiesta Bowl
Oregon State 41-ND 9

2004 Insight Bowl
Oregon State 38-ND 21

A lot of this discussion is ridiculous. What teams do against other teams in different weeks is irrelevant. If Stanford beat USC that does not mean that we can beat USC. If Syracuse beat the shit out of Pitt, it would not mean that we can't beat them. Every game must be looked at individually. On any given day, any team can beat another team. You can make an educated prediction by looking at the following factors:
1. Talent
2. Execution
3. Coaching
4. Gameday Readiness

The third point is probably the most important, you are either ready to play or you are not. Some teams are talented enough to win when not prepared or game ready, for example, USC beating Stanford last week. It is not who beat who, but who shows up on Saturday. I hope our Irish show up, and shine the next two Saturdays and another date to be named.

no wonder i liked your post so much rogos. I posted the following during last season:

I'm not sure if this would fit under coaching, but bad gameplanning. (The attempt to implement a hybrid spread option at the GT game has been discussed ad nauseum so I won't do so further). Getting away from the run too quickly would also be bad gameplanning.

I'm convinced winning requires the following, in order:

1) Game plan
2) Attitude
3) Coaching/Training
4) Execution
5) Talent

The upsets of this season have shown that lesser talented teams can win. I think those games can be attributed to having the top 4 things in order. Relying on talent alone won't win games.

looking back, i think "execution" should probably be higher and attitude maybe a little lower. but i still firmly believe that relying on talent without having the other factors nailed down will not allow you to win most games, unless you're playing terribly inferior teams.

what exactly does a game in 2001 and 2004 have to do with today?

Its relevance is based on the only discernible reason, that I can see, as to why you think OSU wouldn't soundly beat us. I'm guessing that you're discrediting them because you don't think they're a powerhouse program or an upper tier team. I was simply letting you know that their program has been, and is, a very good one. I think that OSU would beat us by at least 21.
