Hey. It's a slow night, and I think this is kind of a worthwhile story.
So there's this Grad student. Said grad student feels that current airline ticketing system is inadequate. He feels that the ideas placed forth by a Senator Schumer here are worthwhile. They've been ignored for over a year. The grad student's ideas on the subject are here.
The topic of the senator's thoughts are that it is too easy to bypass airline security. The senator puts forth a method for someone on a terror watch list to get on a plane using only a stolen or "borrowed" credit card. Nobody seems to care.
So this grad student takes the senators ideas and makes a proof of concept, a web script (since taken down) that will create the fake boarding pass mentioned in the above sites. All he was doing is highlighting a security hole that others have brought up before him, yet everyone seems to ignore. Yet his home was raided by the FBI and there's a senator calling for his arrest.
Gotta love the government recently. Leave gaping holes in security and ignore them when people point them out. Then arrest the people that make it glaringly obvious how big these holes are instead of actually fixing them. ugh. This country will only appreciate whistleblowers far after they're in jail.
