Parlaying off of the paralyzed Rutgers football player..

I saw the clip of Desean Jackson getting absolutely crushed and I thought DeSean was going to be carried out on a sretcher after i saw the manner in which his neck snapped. That hit was sickening. It was a bang-bang play and im pretty certain Dunta Robinson wasnt intending injury but I think it needs to be drilled into players hands that they can ruin someone's life just because they want to lay the big hit and make a highlight. I blame ESPN Jacked Up for some of it. Pretty sure they dont show that segment anymore, which i dont mind at all.

I kinda get annoyed when "old-school" players knock the NFL for protecting QB's and recievers. Im sorry, but back when you played football in 1970, safeties were not 230 pounds and 255 lb defensive ends didnt run 4.5 40's. NFL is protecting their investment and i dont blame them. Besides the fact that it destroys your brain, Players make too much money and tickets are too expensive to be having players getting knocked around like rag dolls getting injured. Yea, you will definitely get the garbage, cheesy, "are you serious? He barely hit him" call, but I think the rules which protect athletes are necessary.

These concussions are getting more and more serious- and it was already really serious to begin with. I dont know what can be done because ithe danger of the sport is inherent to the game. There needs to be a player-player respect level somehow instilled in them. I wouldnt want to be the player responsible for ruining a players career or their life just because I wanted to lay someone out.

Football is going to be a dead game in 50 years if the rules at all levels don't change. The NFL realizes this, and that's why they're being proactive with the rules against sending players back in with concussions, helmet hits, and now... "devastating hits."

That being said, I don't see how you can stop collisions like these from happening. The only way to hit a receiver who is running full speed is hard. Maybe make zone coverage illegal, but besides that I don't see how that hit could have been avoided.

There wasn't hits like this with leather helmets... Its a relation of the advancement of the equipment and the recklessness you can perform while being more protected.

Look at Rugby for instance. Massive hits, but all body and just as bone jarring.

I find it funny when people complain about the game being soft now. The league isn't stopping contact but they want to protect againnst brain trauma and paralization. It one thing to be in a wheel chair because of injuries in your career, its something completely different to be in a wheelcair because you are paralyzed or brain dead
