Who thinks that Weis should red shirt Dayne Crist??

while ND doesn't use the traditional redshirt term, Weis has pretty much said that in mop-up time, it would most likely be Nate Montana who comes in. Sharpley is the clear and far #2. so there's no need to burn his eligibility this year.

Yeah I'm all for letting him sit out this year unless ND has a ridiculous amount of injuries at the QB position. It will be good for him to watch the games from the sideline see whats going on and get an even better grasp of the playbook. Then hopefully he turns into a great successor to JC.

To answer the question, anyone who knows "anything" about football will vot in the affirmative.

Does NBC still show play-by-play highlights on their website after the home games?

I just hope we get to see Montana this weekend!

As in we are doing good enough for him to play.

Thats the second time Ive seen that here. Could someone explain the differences between the traditional redshirt and the redshirt that ND uses? Thanks

Traditional redshirt, player comes to school if he doesn't play his first year, or any year he is guaranteed a 5th year.
At ND if you don't play as a freshman then you technically still have that extra year of eligibilty, but you must apply for it and be accepted by the academic board to actually be welcome back for a 5th year. To qualify you must graduate on time and be taking post-grad work or on pace to graduate and in good academic standing. If I am wrong in anyway someone can correct me.

Thanks Champs. So when Leinart played his last year at USC and took ballroom dancing all year, that wouldnt fly at ND. That makes sense. Another reason to be proud of being an Irish fan. :)

Let me change it around a bit and say one of these two things happen.

A) Clausen really struggles early and the Irish start out extremely slow like 1-2.

B) Clausen gets a season ending early

Then....do the Irish turn to Crist?

I'm not sure what "B)" means, but let me put it this way.

um, no!

Sharpley is the back-up. And until he is no longer able to play, Sharpley will remain the #2 QB and will play if Clausen is unable to.

I have always liked Evan Sharpley and think he is a more then capable backup and can lead the Irish to victory if need be.

NO! Evan Sharpley is the backup. He would play. Crist is about as ready to play as Jimmy was early last season. There is no reason to play the 3rd string QB.
