Great article on the minutes played by position (pre-UCLA).

BlueandGold.com // Cumulative Playing Time (5 Games)

I ran some numbers to see who was playing and where (lumping in 5th years and 4th years into the Snr. category). And, I arrived at some interesting results:

Offense Defense
Fr. 14.14% 13.65%
So., 35.62% 15.58%
Jr. 23.33% 18.33%
Snr. 26.91% 52.45%

You can see how much experience plays into the success of a particular unit. If I were an 2008 defensive recruit, I would be loving the opportunity for playing time next year.

Hmmmm I have to say yes - I agree that as a recruit that makes me smile. But I'm not a recruit and that top-heavy D side makes me frown. Clearly we had some guys on the D really step it up on Saturday so I couldn't possibly complain about that. But I hope we can work more young guys in there on D as we go along because we are going to need the experienced guys on both sides for the '08 and '09 seasons. I wonder what the time percentages look like at some of the other biggie programs.

I think that it also shows you that it isn't quite CW's team yet. He is still playing alot of Ty's recruits. That was another aspect of those numbers that surprised me.

It would be interesting to see how other teams stack up.....

For reference, the 2006 team time was as follows:

Offense Defense
Fr 11.81% 5.19%
So 7.91% 9.27%
Jr 7.24% 18.57%
Sr 73.05% 66.97%

Dayummmmm! Ok well that is a serious senior-laden team. My thoughts were more along the lines of USuCk or OSU (although I know they are sort of unbalanced). Do you think that most good/great teams are consistantly this senior-heavy? I would think there should be more juniors playing at least, although we all know about the 2006 junior/soph classes...
