I only can remember back to Holtz

Holtz - Heavy Ground Game with great Special Teams and a hard nose Defense.

Davie - Not real sure, I think a lot of luck

Willingham - The best offense was our defense

Weis - Superpower offensive potential and Defense is getting there due to lack of recruiting from the previous two coaches.

Great D's, Bad O's. That simple. Pretty good recruiter, but not the best.

I think it was Prister that did an article recently (could have been B&G) which talked about Davie's 2001 D being one of the best in recent memory (25 years)

If I remember correctly Davie was a pretty good recruiter but an awful gameday coach. Been a few years but I seem to remember time mismanagement issues all the time with him at end of games. Plus who can't forget the all out blitz against MSU, sheesh.

Maybe if he wasn't such a jerk Weis could have taken him on a DC.

I never understood why Holtz took him on as DC. I mean he beat Davie's "Wrecking Crews" two years in a row in back to back Cotton Bowl appearances. The first one, 1993, was a blowout. Maybe he was the best one available after Minter left for Cincy, but I never understood that hire. And he definitely had issues w/ clock mgmt. The Nebraska game immediately comes to mind.
