I want to see this kid start. It wouldn't hurt.

He's going to be starting next year at LG so why not have an OL with five returning starters next year? It certainly wouldn't hurt our chances.

is that what chris stewert is playing? cause he got owned for a big man...

That's what I'm talking about. Stewart is a fifth-year senior who will not improve. Watt is a freshman who, coupled with Martin, could provide a solid blindside anchor for Dayne Crist/Hendrix-Rees-Massa two to three years down the road.

Not this year. Never, under the worst circumstances, should he see the field a single snap this year.

If, next offseason, he has a better grasp of the offense and outplays Crist, sure. Play him. But for now, Dayne Crist is the future.

A qb is a field general...I look at crist and he seems rattled (most of the time)....I see him throwing the balls into the ground...

I see a first year starter with a terrible offensive line, two underperforming (in Floyd's case, just flat out lazy) studs, two first year college wide receivers that are still learning the position (one in Riddick that is going to be a complete stud when he finally masters his WR skills). Not to mention people have lofty expectations and he's standing in the enormous shadows of Brady Quinn and Jimmy Clausen.

well put....

The main issue I have is the fundementals of the game...basic throws in the flat (or curls) and they go in the dirt.

Where I was going on the Hendrix comment...is that he can run...he is a smart kid...and he would give an added demension. Mark my words he will be the #2 guy next season and will push for quality time....

I agree.

Hendrix has a strong arm, even stronger than Dayne Crist. Once he learns this offense, he's going to be deadly. He'll give us two solid seasons after Crist leaves after the 2012 season.

As for Crist himself, he can only go up. He needs to work on his accuracy and his composure.

If we get in a spot like we did for Michigan...and we have to do with Montana or Rees....we will have bigger issues...since neither of them can run that well...

i thought crist has been fairyl accurate until today. my biggest knock on him is his deep ball & his touch in the red zone.

i think he has the ability to lead, but right now he's going thru growing pains with this offense. i agree he looks shell shocked but give him more time. he'll come thru it.

i didn't like the way he looked today, but you've got to hand it to stanford. they really took it to him.

Stanford is good...well coached....tough...smart...and the one thing that I was most impressed by....wait for it....they were actually good sports. I ddi not see any dirty play...etc. I think that is one of my pet peevs...solid football the right way.

eh, i saw some cheap shots by them. don't be fooled. i saw where luck was kind to a band member but outside of that, stanford players aren't that good of sports. they were jawing big time on more than a few plays.

i'm like you, i love solid tough smart football without all the b.s. bravado talking smack, etc. don't get me wrong, i like swagger, but seeing it backed up by tough play, not jawing.

Nothing like giving up on a player after a bad game

That's one way of looking at it.

Watt nearly beat out Stewart for the starting job in fall practice. I say we give him a chance. Building towards the future, as DS put.

Or you can look at it as building towards the future.

No its quitting, Chris Stewart has been a stud for us last year and most of this year. Everytime someone makes a mistake i read a thread here or elsewhere about how they should never play, Now its Chris Stewart, its been Harrison Smith, Darrin Walls, Armando Allen, Brian Smith, Ian Williams, Zeke Motta, Theo Riddick, Mike Floyd, Kerry Neal, Ethan Johnson, Sean Cwyner, Jonas Gray, Cierre Wood, and thats all i can think of this year. If we benched everyoe who had a bad play we wouldnt be able to fill out a roster.

Do you really believe that Chris Watt will give us a beter chance to win right now than Chris Stewart would, if he did he would be starting already over him.
