PRP high school, where Brandon Newman played last season, had three players collapse at practice several days ago, apparently of heat exhaustion. Two were hospitalized, and one of those stayed just a few hours. The other, Max Gilpin (Sophomore) remained in ICU for three days until his death occurred over the weekend.
This is a tragedy that occurs way too often it seems. No more details yet as to why this happened, but the heat index was 94 and the water breaks followed the guidelines for that temperature. These guidelines just became stricter last month to prevent these occurences, although this may be a seperate health issue. We simply do not know.
Please say a prayer for all involved here, and Brandon as well. It wasn't a huge team at PRP, so I'm sure they knew each other in some way.
