On todays chat on the South Bend Trib web site, someone asked if it's true that Webb has a career ending injury to his shoulder. This is the first that I've heard of such talk. Anyone have any insight?

There are some rumblings around the GUG about this. Can't say for sure if it's 100% legit. This was also tossed around on several message boards: Domer Domain, etc.

I was wondering why he never saw the field considering our problems on the O-line.

i dont even know that name? who the hell is that?

O Lineman from Charlie's first full class in '06. Hasn't played at all i don't think. Was passed on the depth chart by Dever and Rommine this year. Doesn't look like he would have started much if at all in his career at ND, but sure will have a nice degree to fall back on.

If he can't play and isn't on the roster, does his scholly still count against the 85 authorized?

They won't pull his scollie for an injury. So yes it will count against the 85. However if he is a good student, I imagine some other schollie/grant will be coming. 1 more open spot for the 2009 class.

I heard about it a few days ago. That has been the word around campus that he is done, but will remain in school. I also heard that ND set out another OL offer because of it but I haven't seen anything to confirm that yet.

No it won't count against the 85. I've already heard that he'll be staying in school on an acedemic scholarship.

I don't ever remembering about hearing about a shoulder injury that serious for a non-QB. Weird. Good luck to him.

Apparently it is so serious that he doesn't really have any working ligaments left in his shoulder and right now the main concern is weather or not he'll be able to regain his full range of motion.

From what I've heard this is not the only serious injury that occured this past year put wasn't released to the public. Although the other one isn't carrer threating.

------Wow man that's a big blow. That vaunted 06 class OL is shrinking.......Olsen, Young, Wenger and Stewart remain.

I couldn't find that this was already posted. But, Webb's playing days seem to be officially over.

The Morning News: Columns : Expanded Playoffs Don't Fix Problem
The first of the much-celebrated Springdale Five has seen his playing days come to an end.

Bartley Webb, the left tackle for Springdale High's 2005 state championship team, recently "retired" from college football. Webb, who took part in the 2006 U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio and has been on scholarship at Notre Dame the past two seasons, underwent shoulder surgery after this past season.

The injury was severe enough for Webb's career to come to an end, though he will continue on scholarship at Notre Dame and help as a coach.

Not sure how many of you read the article that came out at the beginning of last season where an Arkansas reporter worked out with Bartley during the offseason. Webb worked his ass off but had some real honest statements that I was surprised to see make the article. He said sometimes the workouts and conditioning are so greuling that he considers twisting an ankle just for the break in working out. I am sure many have thought it, but not what you want to hear as a coach or fan. Either way, he was a blue chip stud on a historically good HS football team and I wish him success in whatever he goes on to do. I doubt it will be running marathons though.
