Army also had two baseball players drafted by the Pittsburg in the June draft... they both signed and were playing minor league ball... I wonder if this policy will affect them?

I got to disagree w you marine. The ting that changed was the guys commitment to the US Army. When he agreed to accept an appointment to the USMA as a cadet at West Point, he agreed to a 4 year college degree paid completely by Uncle Sam in return for serving as an appointed US Army Officer for a set period of time- usually 5-6 yr active duty initial tour. His dream of playing pro football definately did not factor into the US Army and his contract. If he ever thought he had a chance to play Pro football, then USMA should never have been his choice of schools to matriculate at. He was trying to take advantage of a policy they had from 2005 that would have allowed him to be a recruiter during his other job, but like all policies the Army comes up with, it has subsequently changed.

The reason I have no sympathy is because there are 1,000,000's of people that apply for an appointment to the Academy every year, yet only 1,000 are accepted. Each know what is expected of them if they accept the appointment- they will become officers on active duty.

Yes it will. They will report to their squads after their seasons is over with.

One more thing about attending a service academy... on top of attending for free, all of the cadets, midshipmen and future airman get paid a salary (E-4 pay) every month.

im just saying its tough. he knew what he was heading for. its not like this war just popped up recently. and he said he would gladly join his brothers in arms. that what he went top school to do was to be an officer. hes doing what is asked and doing it proudly but if anyone one of those guys had the chance to play pro ball they jump at it. he got so much more publicity as did the army because of him being drafted. that was free publicity. and if he had made the team they would have gotten great pub for it. he stands there in his uniform does some comercials and smiles. you dont get better press than that. i just think the timing was bad. the army got everything they could out of him as far as publicity goes then pulled the rug out. its the government and he signed a contract so he is going to serve his time and in 2 years if he has the talents then he can follow his dreams. until then hes an officer.

nothing bad comes out of this story, except the lions lose a draft pick but it was a seventh.
