2013 RB Plans Camp Visit
Friday, 13 May 2011 21:29 Brian Town . .There is no question Notre Dame's been working very hard on the 2012 recruiting class, but the Irish are also hitting the 2013 class hard at the same time.
With Notre Dame’s summer camp coming up in June, the Irish have already been trying to get a number of sophomores’ information in hopes of them attending. One such target in their sights is 2013 running back William Houston (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto).
“They have been sending me a lot of letters wanting me to try to make it up to their camp,” claimed the back. “Notre Dame is a school that really interests me. I really liked the tradition they have up there in South Bend and that's what I'll be looking for in a school that I consider, lots of tradition in football. I'm definitely planning on getting to Notre Dame for camp this summer.”
The 5-foot-11, 213-pound bruiser has already been hearing from some of the top schools in the Big Ten and a few others.
“At this point I haven’t received any offers yet,” said Houston. “A lot of schools have been showing me interest like Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Notre Dame and Cincinnati.”
Though it's still early, Houston has already visited a couple schools on his list and came away greatly impressed with each location.
“I've already been up the East Lansing to visit Michigan State this year and that went well,” he said. “It was kind of a long drive, but there's something about East Lansing that I like. I can't put my finger on exactly what that is though.
“I also went to a couple games at Ohio State and those were great also. What I like about Ohio State is their fan base. I like how during every game, the fans are really into it.”
Houston’s father, William Houston, Sr., played football for the Buckeyes during his college years, but that doesn't necessarily mean that his son will call Columbus home.
“I'm going to be looking at how I interact with the players and the coaches when I start checking out these schools,” claimed Houston. “Just being able to develop a relationship with the city and the players will be very important in the school I choose.”
Distance won't play a factor either Houston claims.
“When it really comes down to it, I don't think distance is going to matter that much in my decision,” he said. “Just whatever schools I feel comfortable with will get my consideration.”
The talented running back had 180 carries for 906 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, and he's already started setting goals for what he plans to accomplish as a junior.
“I'm always working hard and never take a play off,” he said. “I run with a lot of explosive power and I always keep my legs moving. My goal this year is to get 2,000 rushing yards in the season. I also want to get more involved in the passing game and work on my blocking.”
Houston hopes those attribute will impress the Irish enough to offer him.
