They both significantly benefited from the age and experience of their starters - Cignetti is just a way better coach than Cristobal, and Mendoza is a way more clutch player than Beck. Pretty much all it boiled down to.

My take is that - MF is young still, and good to great NFL gigs come open with some regularity. He has unfinished business at ND, and ND is investing in him and the program at the level needed to get over the hump. He knows the legacy he'll have if he brings ND a championship, and that the NFL...
