'26 CA ATH Trent Mosley (USC Verbal)

Just a reminder that our leading receiver/captain was a walk-on. Sometimes coach's evals miss. I hope he has a great career while USC is going 0-12.

    Little league Baseball

Truth about D1 athletes. It is 70% genetics, 20% work ethic of the kid and 10% skill development. You can't teach big and fast.

    Little league Baseball

I always thought the best thing for kids until 7th grade would be a sports league where the teams stay together but they change sports every three months or so. Maybe football or soccer in the fall, basketball until January, wrestling until spring, soccer or lacrosse in the spring, baseball in...

    24-Team College Football Playoff

Best case scenario for 24 teams: Week 1 (Dec 5) replaces Conf Champ week with teams 9-24 playing on campus games. At least these games will matter, unlike the current conf championships. This will be ripe for upsets too as that group will be more evenly matched. Week 2 one week later (Dec 12)...

    Everything Soccer

I was one of them. The Spanish language announcers just seem more excited to be there. Even if you don't understand everything they say, it just seems more compelling.

    Everything Soccer

The problem soccer in the US has is that if Erling Haaland grew up here, he'd be playing tight end. Strikers with 4.3 speed that are over 5'10" will be playing cornerback. We get great soccer athletes, but not the cream of the crop and we never will.

    Protect College Sports Act

A CBA is all well and good until teams start to go on strike. A CBA basically institutionalizes the "uncles" and adds another layer of middlemen feeding at the trough. The current students may be employees but they don't pay union dues.

    Protect College Sports Act

That would be a very honest and transparent way to do solve it, which is why it will never be done.

    Protect College Sports Act

Congress has the same handicap that the NCAA has. They want to protect non-revenue sports (read women's sports Title IX) at the expense of getting revenue-generating athletes their fair share of the pie. Until there is TV revenue sharing by sport, this will continue to be a problem.

Got this nugget at a coaching clinic that still sticks with me: There are more elite teams than there are elite athletes.

This is stupid. Why should a regular person pay taxes on their wages, but a college kid making millions not be taxed? I'm all for NIL, but the kids need to pay taxes like the rest of us. A good life lesson for them.
