Ok we cant wine forever lol.

Who is left

Well this is the order i am going to put them in - probably not the best but whatever.

1. Bob Stoops (I think he is the best - but probably wouldnt leave his monster)
2. Bobby Petrino(Probably the Most likely candidate)
3. Jeff Tedford (He sounds happy in California :-( )
4. Nick Saban (So low cause of price and attitude)
5. Ron Turner (Had a great offence at the Illini should have had more wins that is his weak point - he had great teams but not the wins)
6. Larry Coker (Probably Unlikely cause i bet he is happy in Florida)
7. Mack Brown (Dont know how much fans would like his loses at OU)
8. Other (Butch Davis, etc.)

What do yall think of this or a chatroom for Irish FB www.collegefb.tk

Well lets see here. We are gonna find out how good Urban really is playing the teams in the gators conference next year. Stoops wont leave Oklahoma, he likes what he has built and he likes embarrasing Texas every year. I dont think Butch Davis will want to coach, he has said he wants time off. Boise States coach just signed a contract extension. I honestly have no idea who we are going to bring in. Im sure the administration is scraping their brains for someone now. Urban pisses me off saying all the things he did and praising the irish then not coming here, but maybe it was for the best. I still would have liked to see him play harder teams and win, but now its time to get serious. I hope that they dont rush into this and hire another bust, but only time will tell.

Ok

Bobby Petrino is LOUISVILLE's coach and i think he will be the best pick for ND
or lets get Pete Carrol mad and get Norm Chow here

Chow ain't coming from what i hear, he hates the cold with a passion. Petrino is ok. Charlie Wiess interests me. There saying here in ny that ND will go after the Bills OC clements. he coached at ND before as a assistant, don't know much about him, but people think highly of him. Who cares though, we need to give the incoming coach a few academic exceptions like Holtz had.

The administration wont hire Petrino after the Auburn thing, and are we even sure Petrino could do a good job here with all the academic restraints and no junior college transfers? Lets face it, Louisville isnt known for being an outstanding school academically, so I am wondering how he could cope with the pressure at South Bend.

I'm pissed at Urban Meyer too! Now we look like idiots for firing Ty with the expectation of automatically gettin Meyer. I hear that he wanted to loosen some academic standards and that the university wasn't willing to budge. I'd love to get Tedford now, but I heard an interview and he was thrilled with the talent base in California. I'm bummed out now...we better win our dam bowl game. At least that will be one positive.

Screw Meyer! I hope he gets his head kicked in by the vicious SEC schedule (Florida St., Tennessee, LSU & Georgia in '05)---I hope they're all loses.

I think we need someone who has coached or is coaching in the NFL. That should help us in recruiting. I dunno I think ND is in trouble

Charlie Weis a ND grad, 15 years in the NFL. 9 years with New England, he's been the OC for the past five years. He's won Super Bowls, and i think kids would line up to play for a guy like this, Because he knows how to get you to the NFL.

Its good that great candidates are still available

Weis may be brilliant, but I have no idea how he comes across in person (regarding recruiting and motivation). Still, I prefer the idea of an ND grad and agree that he would be seen as a major coup by today's highschool kids.

Petrino probably has the best resume after Weis, but is also a proven head coach. I especially like Ferentz, but like Tedford, I doubt he is leaving his current position. Most people will find Hawkins pretty exciting if they read more about him.

Well if Nd doesn't dig deep into those pockets for some real cash, none of these guys will be coming to South Bend. ND makes a killing with the NBC deal, and there product line. So theres no excuse not to pay for a good coach. One trip to the BCS will pay the coaches whole salary.

For the love of God, they can ask these guys and maybe the athletics director will, but leaving a comfortable position where you're well-paid and appreciated for Notre Dame is absurd unless it is actually a step-up on their career ladder. Start thinking about coaching for what it is: An occupation, usually chosen by people with little or no true connection to Notre Dame. Coming to ND is only a step forward for a few top candidates. Guys like Petrino, perhaps Ferentz, Hawkins, possibly Tedford, maybe Weis, and a handful of others.

Sure ND has the money to lure anyone. The problem is they don't believe in paying big bucks for guys to come coach. They eventually matched urban's deal of 14 million after low balling him. But Urban wanted 6 academic exceptions, ND offered some academic exceptions. 6 is a little on the high side, holtz would win with 2 or 3 academic exceptions. I'm glad to hear they offer him some academic exceptions though, I hope they offer that to the next candidates.

Are you kidding? Did I really see Larry Coker on that list? If that man even comes near South Bend I am done with ND football.

I'm with timm on this one 100%. There is an old saying in the business world, "To make money, you have to spend money." Not exactly the West Coast Offense. Pretty simple. Gruden, Shanahan and the Mooch are pipe dreams. It would take Touchdown Jesus himself to get either of those guys in at ND for '05. Still, they are going to have to dig a little deep on this one. This could finally be the time for ND to loosen the reigns a bit as far as academics and control. I'm not saying bring in Dennis Erickson and make Kim Dunbar the assistant head coach, but there has to be some slack given. Who's to say that a kid that was a fair HS student can't come to ND and work hard in the classroom? Zorich did. Tony Rice did. Ricky Watters did. All are successful now post-football.
Meyer's decision wasn't based on the money. It was based on the situation and his ability to achieve on a positive level. The positive option of the two was, I hate to say, Gainesville and not South Bend.
Up the $$$$ a bit and loosen the load with these stupid test scores that mean jack anyway. Otherwise, no one will want to come here.

the trend continues....ND played games all season long but they never played a "complete" game. Teams kept fighting and they almost came back to win. Same with the recruiting of Urban, half-assed negotiating gets another loss. Let's try a season without the coach and see what really happens. If they lose can't blame the coach anymore! I'm sure everyone on this board can agree that ND could of put up 14+ million if they really wanted this guy. The offer we gave him was pathetic! I don't blame him for going to Florida, i wish him the best!

Tom Clements, Tom Clements, Tom Clements!!! He is an alumn, an offensive man, and knows how to win! This should now be the only choice for head coach at ND.

I like clements, he turned tommy maddox's carrer around and Kordell Steward had his best year under him, he's also doing a good job with the bills, there putting up a lot of points lately.

He just doesn't have the resume however to coach ND. If we were to go that route we'd be better off hiring Weis. However if turns out we at least need to give Clements and Weis a complimentary interview, lets not burn those bridges for the future. Weis was upset we didn't at least interview him in 2001.

Unlikely, but he would be a tremendous hire if it actually happened. Maybe he's getting tired of the NFL game. He has won 2 superbowls, so maybe he's content and ready for the college game...but like I said, unlikely.

It ought to be Charlie Weis. The Patriots are one of the best all around teams in the NFL and their offense is great. They can run and pass, both extremely well. If you look at their performances against tough defenses, they've managed to put a few points on the board (exception being the Steelers...who's defensive coordinator is Dick LeBeau and ND ought not hire him). I like Weis more than Clements because Weis has gotten his team to the big show. Like a lot of people are saying about Meyer, now that he's gone to Florida, Clements is a coach of the future. I think Weis needs to be made the coach of the present.
