Hawkins?

Something tells me we should consider this guy. He may be as good as Urban. He may even be better then Urban. Urban actually had a little talent at Utah (recruited a couple of blue chip) while Hawkins hasn't had one blue chip in his time at Boise State. Boise State and Utah pretty much have the same schedule, both finished udefefeated, both scored a ton of points, but Hawkins did it with less talent. But Urban did a great job at two schools while Hawkins only one.

Hawkins is Catholic and has expressed interest in Notre Dame (He'd take it if offered.). Something that impresses me is he has taken his name out of the illinois job. Illinois is certainly an upgrade over boise State. This shows me this guy has confedence in himself. I like that.

Only question I have about him is recruiting. I think like Urban his offense style will intrigue recruits.

Urban will be a stud at florida. I think Hawkins has almost as good credentials.
Great thing about him is he wants the ND job.

This guy sure does have a lot in common with Urban.

Maybe he warrants an opportunity?

44-6 thats great anywhere. First it was wow Boise St in the top 25, then it was wow there in the top ten. Boise St in the top ten enough said. He's a great coach, i'd love to have him.

hawkins just extended his contract, 5 years for 2.6 mil. notre dame could easily buy this out, but i dont even know if they have contacted hawkins

Hawkins hasn't signed the extention yet, according to ESPN.

He's not signing it any earlier than Sunday. He said he's willing to talk to other teams before then. Maybe he's dropping a hint. White will screw it up... hwhateve

Sounds like Hawkins is interested in ND.

Winning that many games in a row is absurd, regardless the schedule. Hawkins is legit, but I wonder if his offense particularly 'picks on' bad defenses. I've never seen Boise State play, but he will encounter far better d-backs with ranked opponents. A fun-gun won't cut it at ND, if that's what he runs.

He runs a balanced offense, not fun and gun. They have 2670 yards rushing this year, with 46 rushing TDs. There passing yards are 2958 with 17 passing TDs. He had 8 players with atleast 100 rushing yards. He loves to spread the ball around and keep his players fresh.

ND contacted Steve Mariucci according to the NYT yesterday.. maybe he's interested.

He is very interested, the only problem is the money gap. NFL coaches make twice the money, so ND would have to come up with atleast 3 Mil per year.

i agree with timm, Shanahan would be great....Gruden talks need to be dropped, he passed over ND once, he'll do it everytime regardless how he's performing in the pros.

I doubt any NFL head coach other than Mariucci is realistic, though Gruden is still young. Someday he may come to ND, perhaps after a long and succesful NFL career. You can only win so many superbowls before you start looking for a new challenge.
