Recruiting
If Ty Willingham is going anywhere, he would be resigning. Notre Dame honors their cotracts. It's a fact. He still has two more years to go and I can't see ND firing him. As for the chances of him resigning, I can't see it happening. I think he is going to try and see this thing through and turn it around. Whether he is successful or not is a different story. The last of the Bob Davie recruits should be graduating, which means this program will be composed of Willingham's recruits for the most part. We will now see just what he can do with something other than the hand he was dealt.
As for recruiting, based on this season's performance, I would say the main areas of focus need to be wide receivers and defensive backs. Notre Dame's front seven may very well be the best in the nation. Too bad they can't defend the pass. Based on the pass defense of 2004, any hot shot blue chip recruit would have to be sold on the fact that he has the potential to be a starter right away, especially at corner back. The guys we have now are flat out horrendous. And there appears to be no relief in sight.
As for wide receiver, speed kills. Matt Shelton is the best WR on the team for a reason: he's the fastest. Tight end is set, running back looks solid with Darius Walker and Travis Thomas and I believe Quinn will be stellar for the next two years. Wide Receiver is next.
Notre Dame could have easily been 9-2 or 8-3 this year. Coaching cost them BC and Pitt for certain. To beat Michigan and go on the road to beat Tennessee showed signs of improvement, but losing winnable home games to middle tier opponents is unacceptable.
I think this is only a rumor, but if it turns out to be true I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
