Has everyone pretty much given up on this abortion of a team? Hanging tough with Indiana so far, but the Irish had a big lead in the first half before going 0-14 from the field. This team is just difficult to watch without Abromaitis.

Oh, and thanks to Carelton Scott for abandoning the team to play in some obscure European basketball league.

32-24 with 16 mins to go. Looks like the Hoosiers are about to pull away.

Carleton Scott would be shining right now and looking at a late first round draft selection on June. But I hope he enjoys making his money in Europe.

This team just cannot create shots at all. I know I was spoiled watching this team last year, but this is pathetic. Scott Martin where is your senior leadership? Why do you pump fake EVERY time you touch the ball?

There's a huge difference between leaving early and not coming back for a 5th year so I wouldn't say he abandoned the team. What if he comes from a family that doesn't have much money? Players only have so many years they can play competitively, so why not maximize the time playing for compensation? If he didn't want or had no use for a masters degree, there would be no educational reason for him to return either.

Man, it's just too bad that the other Zellar kids didn't follow Luke to ND. We'd be a different team with those two kids. Irish are hanging tough today...down 9 with just under 8 min left. I agree about Martin pump faking every time. Kid needs to have confidence in his shot and throw them up when he is open. Oh, and Dragicevich has no business playing division one basketball. He does absolutely nothing positive when he is on the floor. With that said, Cooley is playing well and I really like Jerian Grant's game. Atkins doesn't play as fast as he did last year, but he's doing a better job of taking it to the rim today.

Excuse me for my ignorance; I was unaware that Scott had indeed completed his degree. That certainly changes things.

Not that it would have mattered anyway. This team was done the second Abro went down. The Big East is going to have fun beating the **** out of this team.

In more positive news, what is the state of the young guys? Atkins is obviously a true sophomore, but he doesn't look like a team-leading talent yet. Grant and Connaughton look promising, are they freshmen or sophomores who simply didn't play last year? Cooley is a banger, but he needs another tree down there with him. Broghammer is atrocious.

Basically, any chance this team has top-25 talent in the next season or two?

Dragicevich's AAU coach was a ND grad. That's the only reason I can think of that he could of gotten a offer. He looks so goofy out there

We'll have a solid backcourt in the future, but it looks like we have absolutely nothing down low. Zach Auguste, 6'10 PF 4 star class of 2012 commit, should have the chance to start the day he steps on campus.

Don't we have a really good 2012 class coming in? 6'10" sounds great to me... I feel like the last guy over 6'8" we had was the eldest Zeller, and he refused to play in the paint.

Sorry for all the questions but I don't keep with the BBall team like I do the football team (my alma mater actually has a D1 basketball program), but what's the word on Golson playing basketball?

This is going to be a long year. Any chance of being sneaky good went down with Abro. However, the future does look bright. To answer a few of your questions, yes Atkins is a sophomore, personally I think this kid will continue to get better, as he gets stronger. He is already lightning quick. Connaughton is a true freshman. He is going to be a stud, he has only played 12 college games. Grant is a sophomore but did not play last year, so he has 3 years remaining after this yr. Next year, we get Garrick Sherman, a 6'11" transfer from Michigan State. Add that to the 16th ranked recruiting class, and hopefully this down year is only temporary.

Garrick Sherman is a 6'10" (I believe) transfer from MSU who will be eligible to play next year too.

I started a new thread to post an article from the SB Tribune, but it looks like Eric Katenda, a 6'9 PF, should be able to play next year. He was originally supposed to be on the team this year, but due to eligibility issues, could not enroll this past August.

This was just a terrible game overall. IU played terrible and ND couldn't do anything about it. I wish I left after the awesome Purdue-Butler game.

Scott was cut by his European league team... unless he went to a new team.

Not sure where Carleton Scott is right now then if he got cut. His twitter account is private so I don't have any insight there.

As for Dragicevic (who looked like Ben Hansbrough for the first minute of the game and then proceeded to go back to normal form), I hope he enjoys playing this year because he'll likely be seeing a lot of pine the next couple of years with all of these recruits coming in. Biedschied, Auguste, Katenda, and Sherman should all see playing time next year.

The word I've heard on campus is Brey really wants/wanted Golson to play but considering BK doesn't even let his players play Bookstore Basketball, I don't see it happening. I did play a pickup game against Golson last year on campus though, that was rough... the kid is ridiculously good.

2013 class for ND will be awesome if they get Demetrius Jackson too.

This is from 2 days ago

Demetrius Jackson Slam Dunk - YouTube

Jackson is a beast and keeps moving up in the rankings. I think he ends up at around #30 overall. When Vasturia plays at my school this year I'll check him out. He is a great shooter but also a great passer. Beachem Is similar to Biedschied to me. Both 6'7" athletic and can shoot. I wonder if we have room for a big.

2014 hypothetical roster
PG Demterius Jackson So
SG Jerian Grant Sr
SF Pat Connaughton SR
SF\PF Cameron Biedschied JR
C Garrick Sherman SR

6 VJ Beachem SO
7 Zach Auguste JR
8 Austin Burgett JR
9 Vasturia So

That team ccould be very very good.

Yeah it sounds like ND is in the lead for Jackson with Michigan State at 2 and Butler at 3. All of the Indiana schools are bringing in great recruiting classes for the next couple of years. The Crossroads Classic could feature all top 20 teams in 2013 and 2014.
