Does anyone else think the committee that decides on the Mackey award may be ND haters? Four NFL caliber record setting TE's and no John Mackey.

Like it or not, your team's success (or lack of) usually plays a factor in these awards.

And plus, while I disagree with the decision this year, in past years there have always been other great TEs

Bingo- and maybe not haters but certainly not respectors of Notre Dame football. That goodwill has be pissed away by years of mediocrity.

Soon to be four... but hopefully not too soon.
Olsen was a Notre Dame orginal if I'm not mistaking and I'll take Notre Dames 3 over Miami numbers. Thats 3 pretty good pro caliber tight ends in Fasano/Carlson/Rudy.

If I were picking my favorites I'd take the Irish TEs. If I owned a team I'd take Miami's TEs.

You would take Fasano/Carlson/Rudy over Miami's TE's. That's kind of insane. Jimmy Graham is one of the best TE's in the NFL. Shockey has been a great TE in this league at no point were Fasano or Carlson ever better than Shockey. Greg Olsen has been a very good player in this league. Winslow had some really good years until injuries caught up to him. I would take Jimmy Graham over Fasano, Carlson, and Rudy. The jury is still out on Kyle Rudolph but injuries always concern me with that guy.

Graham, Shockey, Olsen over Fasano, Carlson, and Rudy all day everyday.

Just did a little research on espn.com. Hopefully it will help end this "Tight End U" label our fellow fans have undeservingly bestowed upon us.

We have three tight ends currently playing in the NFL.

Other schools with 3 TEs: Georgia, Oregon, Stanford, Texas

4 TEs: Wisconsin

5 TEs: Iowa, Miami, USC

I'm not going to list all of the players but feel free to research on your own. We don't put out the most or the best tight ends. We're not TE U. Sorry :(

There's a lot of history you've left out.

Carlson and Olsen are about of equal caliber. Shockey was a beast in his prime but was always hurt and a cry baby. Jimmy Graham is the best out of the bunch named already. I would take Miami's TE too.

I think Olsen is slightly better than Carlson. Seattle signed Zach Miller to take over the starting job. Carlson is on IR now actually don't know what happened. Shockey was a cry baby but he was a beast plus he splits a lot of touches with Greg Olsen actually. Jimmy Graham might be the best TE in the league now, 80 catches 1101 yards and 8 TD's. I know he just emerged this season but he's a beast. That's all irrelevant you are correct the caliber of Miami TE's in the league is a little bit higher than Notre Dame's now. Eifert might be the best receiving TE that we have put in the league out of them all. The jury is still out on Rudolph, I think he has all the talent in the world. Hopefully he can stay off the sidelines.
