High school TE fits the jumbo athlete mold Kelly likes. Has been in constant contact with staff as well as hearing from several Big Ten schools

I'd be stoked to see Joey get an offer. His school, Eastern, is in the same conference of the team I coach for. The kid is the best athlete in our conference.

However, the level of competition he plays against is pretty low. Eastern is a 2A program, out of 5 classes in IHSAA football. They have recently been pretty terrible, but have turned the program around somewhat with Joey's class and the class ahead of him. Eastern played perennial 2A power Ft. Wayne Bishop Luers in the state playoffs last fall and got absolutely lambasted, so they still have a ways to go.

But, like I said, Joey is (with the exception of that Luers game) almost always the most athletic guy on the field. He just flat makes plays. You can see his work ethic is tremendous and you can tell he leaves it all on the field every game. You'll also never talk to a nicer or more humble kid. He's the kind of RKG (although I hate that term at this point) that we want at ND. With a good season and continued improvement, I think he could grow into a terrific DE prospect.

He appears to be a back up plan at this point but has great size and good mobility, his video is nice. Doubt he gets an offer because he will be a project but the staff is keeping in touch.

Yeah, it'd be pretty shocking, especially given his current offer list and our current extended offers. I think he'll end up being a productive DE at Purdue or IU, but him getting an offer would mean we seriously whiffed on some larger talents.
