i love the idea of a one game throwback once every 2 years or so, maybe the old blue and white, or "Joe Montana Green" (ala 2007) it'd be a fun way to embrace the tradition while changing up a sometimes "boring" uniform

Yeah the gold was not as shiny this year, but before in seasons past they were having major problems with the paint chipping off. Remember some games when an Irish player would tackle someone and gold flakes would go everywhere and there'd be this big red spot on the helmet?

I don't know if the chipping was always a problem pre-2010 and we just noticed it more with HD TV and all that, but clearly that's why they made a change.

I will say though, that ND played in a lot of gloomy games this year. If the sun isn't shining brightly and if there's no stadium lights, the helmets won't look shiny. You can look at some old pictures and see the helmets looking kind of dull.

I guess we should always have shiny helmets like some of the other gold-helmeted teams do...but they don't mix in real gold either.
I find it hard to believe that the helmet supplier cant match the old darker more vivid gold to a non chipping helmet that they wear today. The color is no different than anyone else's helmet now and it should not be that way. I know I sound like a 'Nancy' here but give me the gold that I saw from Ara-to-Lou's teams and get it right. The train is coming and I want the old gold back on that helmet. Small shamrocks for excellance is also great for me. Just make them small as to not end up looking like Ohio State and make is be given for truly game changing plays not just grading out well. Maybe 4/5 max on anyone's hat for the entire year as it was truly an important play that they were recognized for. College guys love that stuff and it would give them some pop for their action in the game. I'm in for the shamrocks

So what you're saying is you want that luminous shine back like on MacAfee's helmet in your avatar picture?

I hear you, and I'm sure they are working on it. They got the no chipping down last year, now they need to work on making them more bright.

I'm guessing most fans would say no to that idea. I'm looking forward to the survey and seeing how many people want the shamrock on the helmet (if only for one game or a season), but I'm pretty confident that the number will be less than 10%.

I would say that shamrock stickers would be about the same.

Count me as a not only NO but HELL NO on either.
