I hate to even think it, but it is staring me in the face:
I think we are going to lose to every team with a good QB that we face.
The defense has not figured out how to put any pressure on opposing QBs, this year. That's not to say that they WON'T get it figured out. But, until they do, opposing QBs are going to have a lot of time to find open receivers. And the DBs cannot be expected to cover receivers all day long. This is going to force the defense to drop 7-8 guys into coverage on every play. That opens up the running game for opposing offenses. What you end up with is teams that nickel and dime their way down the field. Stanford averaged 6.1 yards per play. ND averaged 5.2. We all know that ND did not make many big plays at all. Neither did Stanford. Stanford nickeled and dimed their way down the field. The offense is going through the normal "growing pains" of implementing a new offensive system, while simultaneously breaking in a new QB. Combine those two factors, and you have the almost perfect storm, for a 5-7 season. Let's hope it doesn't work out that way, but it's certainly looking like a possibility.
