Like I said, I highly doubt that it was his final list. Look at the date...it was in mid-November. I've said all along that things can and will change before the draft because of the combines and pro-days, but for now, it's easy to see why Clausen is so high on SO MANY lists. It's not just Mel's lists...go do a Google search of all the mock drafts out there. Jimmy is in the top 10 in every single one that I saw.
And Colt Brennan, btw, at this point in their careers, were complete opposites because of their systems and their film. Once Brennan had to perform in front of scouts, he went waaaayyyy down on their boards. He couldn't make the throws, he was small, and he had never gone under center before. Jimmy makes pro throws (ask any QB or scout...the deep out or the deep comeback is the hardest throw to make. JC does that better than anyone in college football, and has proven it over many many games), and has done so all year. Like any QB, he'll be a risk, but as far as him falling the way Brennan and co did that year, he's the one QB that I don't think it will happen to because the way he throws the ball will be conducive to a pro-day set-up...
