Notre Dame's demands if they join B10

I asked this question in another thread, but didn't get a reply. So Ill ask now.

I am a die-hard ND fan, been so for about 26 years. But, I do not know much about conferences, and the leverage ND has when it comes to negotiations.

My question is would ND have any leverage in negotiating with the Big 10 the terms of there contract to keep some of the tradition and appeal the program has attained over the years that makes them so sought after?

For example; as a independent ND can play whom they want, when they want, where they want. They are Notre Dame because of their national presence. Notre Dame is such a successful, and lucrative business because of their freedom. If the Big 10 wants Notre Dame because its a cash cow, and the revenue would be ridiculous, why would they strip ND of what makes it a national icon? It would be a bad business decision.

If they sign with the Big 10, I think they [big 10] would not only allow, but push ND to play one or two neutral site conference games against Penn St, Ohio State, Michigan..etc all over the country. A ND vs tOSU, whom are both ranked in the top 10, game played in the heart of SEC country would do wonders for the Big Ten's ratings..etc making them the premier conference.

Games like that, plus the OOC against SC, BC, Miami, Oklahoma, Texas..etc would be incredible. May even help ND with recruiting because they'd be the driving force behind the nations top conference.

If ND does go to the Big Ten as a business it would only make sense for Delaney to allow ND to be as close as the traditional ND to preserve the sole reason of what makes ND so profitable. Why would he want to destroy that?It would only hurt it's business venture. In the long run..ND would make the big ten more powerful, wealthier, and an apex conference doing what Notre Dame has always done.

Just some thoughts. Anyone have any insight?

Why would they want to destroy that? Because they hate/envy us. Michigan and tOSU control the Big 10. We would always be the step-child.

If that were true Delaney would go down as the most incompetent business man to ever walk this earth. They can hate us all they want, but they need us even more. There is way to much money in ND now, and in the future. If they put a leash on ND then they will only hurt there own pockets. If BK wins then ND will have a lot of power.

You said it buddy, and this may be exactly the hand the rest of college football is trying to force.

I think an off site game in SEC country would help in recruiting for the teams involved but not sure how much they would gain in terms of ratings. It would be a nationally televised game and your viewership would mainly be Big 10 fans anyway.Plus, by moving the game off-site you potentially give up leverage as far as broadcast rights, and take money out of the hosting universities pocket(gate receipts). The real money is by putting ND on the Big Ten Network as often as possible to force our fan base to demand the BTN in as many markets as possible. I imagine that our OOC games would all be off limits to BTN broadcasting, so the Big 10 is already limited to 8 ND games a year that they could potentially broadcast.
This is just my opinion, but if we join the B10, Delaney is going to bend ABC/ESPN over at the next TV contract negotiation.

Hate is an emotion; logic is an intellectual exercise.
One has only to consider the BCS to see how little logic there is in football.
Hate will win when it comes to ND.

Unfortunately BK arrived a little too late. ND is not winning now and this change is happening, now.

I don't see the B10 giving ND anything special, that would go against everything the B10 is. Right now IU gets just as much money and TV (Big Ten Network) time as osu/Penn/Michigan.

Yes here is some insight-if they win football games they do not need to join a conference and as Jack said $$$$ is way down on the list of reasons to join a conference. Bottom line is if Notre Dame Football can get back to where they want to be all this is just talk. Win and your in.

I agree with you. Giving special concessions to Texas sowed the seeds of the discontent that is ripping that conference apart. No way the B10 gives any substantive concessions.

Your kind of missing the big picture. The worry is that with 4 mega conferences (SEC,ACC, Pac16, and the BIG 10-12-16) the BCS goes to a plus 1 type playoff situation, where you would basically have to win your conference to be eligible for a national title game. So even if we went undefeated we would be left out in the cold. The other thing to worry about is what happens to all of our other sports. If the Big East gets raided where do they go? No big conference is going to allow an "all but football" situation to happen knowing that our football team is the big money maker. So if the BCS criteria change, and the Big East gets raided we are joining somewhere. No amounting of winning on the field is going to change that.

They have to go to every town and stop to apologize for a hundred years of rape, pillage, and murder... and before your leader leaves this field, he must present himself before our army, and kiss his own arse...

Love me a lil braveheart.... also, they have to execute the refs from the 2009 ND-UM game.
