I guess you missed his entire junior season. 28 TDs to only 4 INTs (that's ridiculous). 3700+ yards. 68% completion rate. Did most of that on a busted toe which mad it almost impossible for him to scramble and painful for him to plant, the same injury that kept Matt Ryan of the Falcons out for 2 games (Clausen missed only half a game...and came back in that one to lead the Irish to a last second victory). And he did all of this in a pro-style offense with his best receiver (it's true; Floyd was widely recognized as his top target until he was hurt) out for half the year and his TE also hurt for a few games (as well as his top RB).
He also brought his team back for 4 come-from-behind wins, and in every single one of the losses this year, every single one, he brought his team back from deficits to at least give his team a chance to win. In several games, he brought us back from double-digit deficits in the 4th quarter.
My main gripe with Jimmy this year was that he couldn't tackle, couldn't play in the secondary, and he couldn't coach the team. If he had been able to do all those things, along with playing QB better than anyone else in the nation, then we would have been in a BCS game. Unfortunately, he didn't do all those things, so we're stuck with dealing with people blaming him for all those losses.
Truth is, Jimmy Clausen did everything in his power to make this team a winner. He put in tons of work in the offseason, and it showed on the field. Was he perfect? Of course not. But he played his ass off this year, he grew up, he lead, he competed, and he played at a super high level. But his defense sucked, and his coach staff, as much as I love CW, wasn't up to par.
That's not on Jimmy.
Oh, and this 'underachieving' QB is about to become a top 10 pick. Not bad...
