This team lost to Navy, UConn (both at home), went down to the wire with a bad Washington team, a very pedestrian Purdue and Michigan State and lost to an eventually exposed Michigan team.
I wish I had your confidence but it seems completely unfounded and misplaced. Seriously, what's the glory in beating up (or losing to) a MAC team? That's like getting your ass kicked by a high school kid and beating up a third grader to feel better about yourself. There's nothing for the school to gain by playing in the bowl games that have been presented as possibilities.
I couldn't agree more, as this season progressed and we kept winning all those close games and everyone was feeling good about themselves I could only think to myself how close we were to having only
2 wins this season.
One a win against a Nevada team that clearly wasn't in sync in the first week of the season and two a win against a terrible Washington State program that is only in their second year of a rebuilding process.
Can you honestly look anyone in the face right now and say without a doubt that you think we'd beat Nevada now after they set the NCAA record for having three 1,000 yard rushers?
With our rush defense as bad as it is, JC and GT preparing to go pro, and the cloud of uncertainty hanging over the program at the moment, I think a bowl victory in less reputable bowl would not make that much of a difference even with the extra practices and whatnot. A bowl loss, however, could be devastating to the already damaged psyche of the ND faithful and potentially carry over into spring practices.
