Still want to see them play and our win last year set an ealry season tone that Charlie couldn't sustain. I want to see the gold helmets win again before I wait another 8 months for what hopes to be a new beginning. I wonder what hokey slogan we'll have for next season. I got so sick of Charlie's new annual mantra that get's replayed every week on Inside ND Football with Jack Nolan.

Who can remember them all?

How about this: Embrace the Struggle. And make that the motto for the next four or five years.

You want them to hug their opponents???

God, I can't believe I didn't think of this right off the bat....you set it up so well.

Yes, I want ND to hug their opponents next year. And while they're at it, it would be great if in the process of hugging they both fall down on the ground. That would be called tackling....and it would be a hell of a good place to start!!!

You fight for PRIDE, this is so telling about what they are made up of inside. Are you a fighter or are you soft. I am having trouble dealing with the fact these players are so soft mentally. Did Charlie Weis poison their minds. If this is the case we have to start from ground zero.

I know what you are saying buddy, but pride is not a "virtue" worth fighting for. Just shut the hell up and smash a motherfucker. They didn't do that. What pride could they possibly have left? I sat next to an Oklahoma fan at a sports bar during the Stanford game. He kept shaking his head and said he was thinking about trying out for ND football because they are so awful and he would probably make the team.

I do not want to watch my lil dogs put on another humiliating performance again this year. They need to kick back and lick their balls for awhile. And grow some before they step on the field again. To heck with the bowl game. To hell with pride.

ND apparently lost money when they went to the Hawaii Bowl last year bc travel expenses were so great so that is going to play a part in the decision of whether to go to a bowl game. The players have not voted yet and the decision will be made on Friday. Anyone saying that ND has voted yes or no is just spreading rumors

money shouldnt be an issue, weve found out with the coaching search that nd has a buttload of it. i really think we should play it. who cares if were between coaches? ianello is staying anyway, so letting him head coach a game only helps him and the team. another game is only more experience and more practice for the players who need it. theyre not going to gain anything by skipping out and just practicing against each other in the gug all winter. remember this is the last time the team gets to hit, gets to make bleed, gets to compete against someone other than their own until next year's season opener. maybe those that didnt paly football wouldnt understand, but you can only do so much practicing against your own team and scout team. one last chance to beat up on an opponent, where you dont need to worry about injuring somebody or going too hard. leave it all on the field, go pound an inferior team, take this opportunity as a new beginning into the next season. GO IRISH!

They need to go ahead and play in a bowl game no matter where or who its against. They went 13 years and 9 bowl games without winning one. If they would have not went ahead and played in the Hawaii bowl last year they probably would have never gotten the most out of JC or even had the Teo signing. A bowl wins a win! It means three weeks at least of practice something that this team needs. They need to finish this season of on a good note so that the players who are coming back dont have that bad taste in their mouths until next September. I know that everyone would benefit form that experience. The last thing I want to see is Jimmy and Golden go out the way they did.

no offense but these are kids and an emotional grind is over in Iraq or some poor bastard whos company went under.

No, an emotional grind is any experience that brings conflicting feelings and extreme swings from giddiness to depression. Your comment was a nice little platitude....but the fact is that this was an emotional grind to these guys. You can stop and remind yourself all day long that you're lucky not to be in Iraq or to have lost your job but you're still living your life. Thinking of the misery of others in comparison to your own situation is a relatively short term fix because you're not experiencing what they are--you're dealing with your own life.

Again, it was a nice sentiment....but it was only sentiment. A lot of these guys don't see any significant playing time, if any, and selling them on the idea of practicing through finals and missing part of their Christmas break to play in the Motor City Bowl is going to be a pretty hard sell.

Maybe it would be nice to look back in 50 years and say you played in a bowl game....but I don't even know who won the Motor City Bowl last year. If it was even the Cotton or Gator or Holiday but we're talking about the Little Caesar's or Motor City Bowls.

I'm against the idea of playing in a bowl just to play in a bowl. Our bowl history overall is kinda dubious and we'd look really silly if we went to some crap bowl and got spanked by a MAC team.

This team lost to Navy, UConn (both at home), went down to the wire with a bad Washington team, a very pedestrian Purdue and Michigan State and lost to an eventually exposed Michigan team.

I wish I had your confidence but it seems completely unfounded and misplaced. Seriously, what's the glory in beating up (or losing to) a MAC team? That's like getting your ass kicked by a high school kid and beating up a third grader to feel better about yourself. There's nothing for the school to gain by playing in the bowl games that have been presented as possibilities.

I couldn't agree more, as this season progressed and we kept winning all those close games and everyone was feeling good about themselves I could only think to myself how close we were to having only 2 wins this season.

One a win against a Nevada team that clearly wasn't in sync in the first week of the season and two a win against a terrible Washington State program that is only in their second year of a rebuilding process.

Can you honestly look anyone in the face right now and say without a doubt that you think we'd beat Nevada now after they set the NCAA record for having three 1,000 yard rushers?

With our rush defense as bad as it is, JC and GT preparing to go pro, and the cloud of uncertainty hanging over the program at the moment, I think a bowl victory in less reputable bowl would not make that much of a difference even with the extra practices and whatnot. A bowl loss, however, could be devastating to the already damaged psyche of the ND faithful and potentially carry over into spring practices.
