Irish on brink of irrelevance


This is what you get when your first three choices turn you down and the guy you hire has lied on his résumé: a coach who has never even led a high school program and has enough arrogance for five coaches. R.I.P. Charlie Weis and the overbearing attitude that had you thinking you invented the game.

If anybody thought Weis had even a remote chance of saving his job, it was erased Saturday, and Notre Dame had better get it right this time, because one more bad hire and the program could be permanently irrelevant, Gipper or no Gipper.

Let's face it, the Subway Alumni aren't getting younger, and it's impossible to convince 18-year-old kids that Frank Leahy still matters. Plus, having to take calculus freshman year is not a popular selling point. Maybe Brian Kelly is the right choice. Perhaps Bob Stoops will get the job. Whoever is next inherits a program on the brink, and ND had better not mess it up. Again.

I know notre dame has has there struggles and cw hasn't lived up to expectations, but does it seem like this is the only program that would have this sorta shit written about them. I'm not trying to defend cw or anything like that but this is ridiculous. Its like writers and other media outlets go out of their way to kick notre dame when they are down or say something negative. Gotta love how the asshole writer is so anti-Weis he makes stuff up or is too lazy to look facts up (Weis did in fact run a high school program. He did so for one year and the team won the State Championship, so he did fairly well.)

You can dismiss the anti-Weis overtones in his writing, but he did have one thing right, ND cannot afford to be wrong again when they pick the next head coach.

Personally I'm not sold on Kelly and I think that they need to go after Urban Meyer followed by Jim Harbaugh. Kelly is the flavor of the month coach. Harbaugh understand what it is to recruit at a ND/Stanford type school, and is a hard-ass NFL alum. Of course the guy that WILL make a impact up front, knows ND inside and out, is Mr. Meyer. Full court press on him should be the priority.

How can ND be irrelevent? Look at their recruiting classes. If they are overrated, then every top 10 recruiting class is overrated because these kids were invited to fill out those classes - it's not like the kids were 4 stars and ND is the only school that offered them. Are there articles out there about the relevency of Auburn, Florida State, UCLA, Michigan St..... or Penn St. until the last 4 years. Once again... as I've posted here several times... and won't again... look it up College Football National Championship... who has had the longest gap between championships...LSU, Michigan, Ohio St., USC, either have or almost have gone twice as long as ND without.

I was looking at his old posts and apparently he is pissed because I neg repped him back in February, when we signed Manti Teo. Everyone was so pumped and his first comment after the announcement was Charlie wont be here when Manti gets back from his mission. I didnt care for the comment and stated my opinion. Apparently he is still bitter 9 months later, which IMO is completely ridiculous.

So Notre Dame is an average program at best and haven't been a "power" for at least what 15 years......you've had 3 coaches all with the same winning percentages and you're foolish enough to think you have a great program.

Lastly, if you're a losing program for 15 years....you're a losing program..........and this "tuff" schedule...who did they play....Big 10 and a horrible USC team.....face it "traditionalists"....there are far better football teams out there, there always have been but with coverage what it is today, fortunately we can see those programs.....your monopoly on coverage should change....you simply suck, sorry but that's the facts and I've got legions of people that agree with me as does ND's record.

Congrats? The team I have watched for 40 years finds itself down on its luck and you think I'm celebrating because I was "right". Gloating would have been rubbing it in the faces of the "one more years" from two days ago that had some kind of conversion experience after yesterday's game. But I understand, they had/have an emotional tie to CW and maybe the UConn game was the final straw for them. That's fine. Please, show me where I have been gloating in the past about this team.

But intellectually, yesterday's game was one data point in a whole string of observations. And for many of us, what we saw in the UConn game was simply one more confirmation of many stretching back to last season. Hell, clear back to start. Just because the lightbulb went on for a few homers yesterday doesn't mean those who have had relevant criticisms over the last few years were haters looking to stir up trouble. But I know, a little dissent gets people's feelings hurt.

The other day, one of mods was getting on a poster because his posts were negative. I think they were threatening to ban him. Have you watched the team this year? I didn't catch him dropping any f-bombs, calling Charlie names or referring to the players as pussies.

OK, let me get this straight. On another thread, out of the blue, completely off topic, you respond to something Padomernut said by reminding him sarcastically about something he said almost one year ago. Then, on this thread, once again completely off topic, you try to embarrass him again by bagging on something he said almost a year ago. And that's not gloating? You felt the need to do this why?
