End of game playcalling

The calls on the 2nd to last possession, when there was about 7 mins left, and we got the ball back off the INT, were vintage Davie.

At that point in the game, I'm thinking, "okay, we're up 20-17. Long scoring drive and it's over." But Chuck calls two straight run plays, neither for a gain, and then JC gets sacked.

I can only assume Chuck went conservative because he thought Allen could get the yardage. Okay, fair enough -- good to have faith in your RB. I understand the importance of grinding the clock at that point, but ND is not a run team. We cannot reliably get first downs off the run, even if Allen is playing well these days. We could not punch the dang ball in from the 2 yard line, for crissakes. Jimmy, Tate and Floyd are our money players. Throw the damn ball Chuck!

It made sense to run it on 1st down. Allen had a lot of good 1st down runs today.

it didn't matter what he called, cw has gotten too predictable in close games. his plays are centered more around great players (like the patriots) than to have the scheme play to a team's strengths (like uconn with their running game).

my biggest problem with him was the personnel in the red zone. when allen came out to rest, why the hell wasn't riddick called upon. he's more shiftier and a tougher runner than hughes.

yeah he did. but uconn knew what was coming.

True, but if you execute then at least you get decent yardage. The way they they were stacking the box, I would have thought about throwing on second down. I am suprised they didn't screen on third down...know a heavy rush was coming.

BTW....ND knew that UCON was going to run the ball too....and look at what happened!

true, we knew uconn would run, but they had better coaching. it's time for a change.

You won't get any arguement with me on that. The ND AD needs to be getting the feelers out there now. I just hope the next head coach will have this team playing better defense!

I guess it wouldn't be a surprise that ND knew Navy would run as well... I said it at the beginning of the year, can't run it, can't stop the run. Going to be a long year.

You know guys, at this point, it wouldn't matter what CW would have called, it would have been stomped on unless we go down and score. Some of our big play-makers made some big mistakes (fumbles, dropped passes, wrong reads, wrong routes).

Great point. I am about done with trying to figure out why people think we can be the overpowering, undefeated , N/C when we cannot stop the run. Especially when our DEs, D-Line, and LBs are in the back field because the play sent in was to blitz........ again and the running back is being tackled by our safeties. At some point when does Tenuta realize the packages he sends in aren't working and at what point does CW look at him and say, ok enough of the blitzes??

Good post man...

It sucks when the people who chastise you for saying those things really can't see the bigger picture.
