also in the article, "No decision has been made yet regarding the future of Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis, according to athletic director Jack Swarbrick."

as it should, hopefully that will stop all the rumors until the end of the season before gator bowl (?).

Really what is he going to say? Yes we have already started looking? He gave the politically correct response.

No he meant what he said.....That is what it meant because they haven't started looking.....plain and simple.....Because if he wins out then he is our coach....

I've been saying for 11 months - 8-4 and he stays. I too did not see Navy coming. However, A MSU, BC, USC, & either Pitt or Stanford loss were more problematic because it showed no change - Navy and Michigan are correctable.

I think Swarbrick plays his cards close to the vest--which is a good thing. I have yet to see one article quoting somebody inside the program saying that CW is gone--again, a good thing. So you have to wonder at what point the media will stop writing articles about potential replacements or speculating on CW's status. I think it's pretty obvious that the only person making the decision is Swarbrick (although the alumni will have a say with their pocketbooks); this is how it should be. At least the situation at ND hasn't become the disaster that Michigan has become with all the internal squabling. The worst part at Michigan is that it's not coming from unnamed, anonymous sources--we know exactly who is saying what because they are advertising it.

Another reason I want CW to stay is specifically to throw a big middle finger at all those in the media who keep writing these opinion articles about Charlie Weis. Again, when did the sports media stop reporting stories (even stories with anonymous sources) and start writing opinion based columns? Anybody see the article titled "Time for the Great White Hype to be Fired"? This was another moronic article talking about Willingham's dismissal at ND being race-based....has that ever, at any point, been proven? I'm so sick of Willingham coming up, especially in light at what happened at UW.

This doesnt prove a damn thing. If the possability that CW is fired is even close to being there, they should be gauging interest NOW.

If he isnt doing that, he is a bad AD. He gave the politically correct response to the question.

of course he was just being careful with his words. of course they are already putting feelers out, talking to agents and lawyers. they are laying the groundwork. they were never going to make an announcement until after the regular season. that is standard operating procedure when preparing to oust a coach.

anyone who thinks ND has not begun a process of gauging interest of certain candidates is living in a fantasy world. while they are careful not to contact active coaches directly, there are methods employed in such situations, most commonly getting feedback via coaches agents and discussing all ramifications with lawyers as well.

i am quite certain that swarbrick will be prepared to name a new coach soon after weis dismissal. it is simply not an acceptable practice to make such an announcement before the end of the regular season. having a new coach ready soon after a firing will help maximize the retention of recruits.
