To state emphatically that we will likely lose the majority of our recruits if Charlie leaves is a great disservice to our recruits..
yes, and if people would do some research, they would see that high profile coaching hires at high profile programs often keep many of the highest touted incoming recruits. the promise of actually winning alot of games is often cited as a big reason why.
kids come to ND for reasons other than the coach as there are things unique to ND (their own tv network agreement, academics, etc...) that other programs cannot offer. that is not to say the coach has zero bearing, but it is not like a new coach will have no pull with them. the new coach may well be able to target kids who feel going to ND has great appeal but have no interest in playing for an unsuccessful head coach in weis.
discussing the loss of recruits is more about scare tactics than reality.
a new coach may lose a few guys, but not many, and more importantly he will add some guys that weis would not have ever gotten.
the real upside will be having a real head coach who understands the comprehensive nature of being a head coach. the advantage of that will far outweigh the few guys he loses (which, again, based on history at other high profile schools, wont be a significant factor).
the reason everyone thinks that a new coach will be the beginning of a drawn out "rebuilding" is because the ND administration has not targeted the right coaches in the past so ND fans are brainwashed into thinking new coach= starting over. not so at many other schools who dumped coaches and made the right hire.
