assuming we get by Navy and WSU, this sets up a game with a possible top 12 Pitt team and us probably somewhere around 20.

This game would be Charlies "signature win" being on the road and huge bowl implications.

i agree that this game is huge, but it won't count as a signature win unless pitt is in the top 10. even then signature wins, in the way the media refers to them for weis, need to be against perennial powerhouses. i doubt espn would let charlie off the hook if we beat cincy, boise, or tcu.

we're not going to have a shot at a signature win until january at the earliest. a bcs bowl is the only way to get another shot. otherwise we're waiting for usc next year, le sigh.

Pittsburgh has a bye this week so they will probably move up in the rankings by default. Then they court the powerhouse of Syracuse, so they will beat them pretty badly as well. I say they will be ranked around what 12 or so going into the ND game. I think we can be as high as 17 or 18. Just depends on what some teams do in front of us. Will just have to wait and see. I think with Floyd back we win this game.

LOL@ being accountable to ESPN. Just goes to show the type of influence the Worldwide Leader has these days.

I'd rather the man who is paid good money to make these types of decisions (Swarbick) can make them using sound logic. Not considering what the blow hards at ESPN and the drunken mob (us, dumb, impatient, irrational fans) think.

absoultely agree..this is going to be a very big game for us. we need the "W" to continue to help make this a great season, despite two heart wrenching losses.

I really hope Mike Floyd is back, as long as he is healthy and well enough to play.

We as fans can look at BC, but the team needs to focus on Wash and Navy. We'll make Washington's QB look like he should be in the Heismann race, and Navy is no pushover this year (see vs OSU and Vandy).

I agree, Pitt will be huge if we win the next 2. If we lose to either, the season (IMO) is over and we should start courting "Chucky" or Brian Kelly. Don't get your panties in a bunch...this isn't a "fire Weis" post. We have some serious holes to fix on our "D" in the next 2 games though.

Im sorry but I cant let this go unanswered. Why do these 2 names keep coming up? Brian Kelly? Is he the newest version of Greg Schiano? And why Jon Gruden? He took over Dungy's already stacked Tampa Team and won the Super Bowl and then did nothing else with them but plunge them to bottom of the tank.

Weis has the team turning, we can kind of see what happened now looking back. Its obvious he took over a team that was front loaded, then that ran out and they were a high school all star team in '07, got better last year with a middle tier bowl win and prove this year they can play with the best.

Just because ESPN puts a artificial win number on things, Weis is not on any hot seat at all. Im sure hes been informed of this by the inside players already anyway.

Weis is also getting better himself. He is making smarter decisions by the week and not playing games like hes on Madden '09 anymore.

Cant wait for this game, Bill stull is queitly putting together a great season he is third in passer efficiency, right behind JimmaH C!

A huge game on the road against what could be the big east champs.

Hopefully we can build big enough leads in the next two games to rest some of our starters in preparation for this game, it will be a showdown.

I predict tears running down mark mays face after this one. its gonna be great.

Did you really just say this? Since when is it important for ESPN to let Charlie off the hook? Why do people care so much what ESPN says? Unbelievable....

This will also give Good Ol Lou some ammo to fire back at may.

a little off topic but, since you mentioned Lou... I was a little disappointed in our fearless coach/cheerleader this past Saturday on Sports Center, when, in discussing the race for the Heisman, he basically said that Jimmy Clausen really won't have a shot at it since he is not on an undefeated team - he said its going to come down to Ingram, Tebow or McCoy. I thought to myself, "LOU!!! Come ON man!!! What are you saying???" And then, even MORE shocking, Miss May lists JC in his top 3 contenders for the trophy!! Talk about a complete 180! I know Clausen will have to put up superhuman stats and the Irish will need to finish 10-2 for him to even be in the running, but I definitely don't think its a foregone conclusion that the Heisman winner is going to be from an undefeated team! I think it must have been the medication that ESPN is requiring Lou to imbibe prior to all national broadcasts now.

I can't wait for this game for a few reasons.

1. Although this might not be a signature win over USC (a win over UMICH doesn't look so good now as they continue to lose), it would be signature win because we haven't beaten a ranked team since we beat Penn State in 2006 when they were ranked 19th and we were ranked 4th.

2. It is the only game left on our schedule that would give us any type of credibility with the media and BCS. Although Navy, Stanford, and UCONN all have winning records, they are not teams that are considered upper-tier team.

3. On my list of people I wish I never had to see on TV, Mark Mays is second to Pete Carroll, and beating his alma mater would provide Dr. Lou with the opporunity to punch him in the face, figuratively and literally.

I also hate Dave Wannstedt. That f----g fraud. I love seeing his exasperated, confused looks when things totally tank for him.

It is the ultimate measure of what our program has been reduced to that we, with presumably straight faces, are willing to label a game against Pitt (Pitt??) as a "signature" game for Charlie. This is embarrassing!!

If Pitt is a top 10-12 team and we are going into their house to do it then how is it not a big win?

I dont really care what the school has written on their jersey - if they are highly ranked and we win it is a "signature"

Pitt is a traditional program, they are respected. Tony Dorsett, Dan Marino, they have a real strong football tradition. That will easily be our biggest win of the year if they pull it off.

Exactly, a signature win is all about the rankings of a given year. Army used to be a national power but I do no think victories over them have much clout these days. Pitt might possibly win the Big East, and seeing as we play against Pitt in every other sport, I would love to crush them in football.

Plus, two years ago I really wanted Jonathan Baldwin and they won the battle for him. I think he is going to crush us in the vertical game when we play him so I am hoping he gets kicked off the team before then for something
