I hope Bryant Young can also "correct any screw ups or misunderstandings" from the s/c coach as well. I would bet Young could still put up a few pounds in the weight room.

Are you kidding me? Did you miss some of the talents and skills that have recently left the coaching staff?

Great. We go from a not too good defensive line coach to an even better not too good defensive line coach. Teams used to run up and down on Washington. This hire is a desperate one at the least. Piss poor.

yea, last year, but not for the last 21 years. you have to remember that washington was a premier program until neuheisal decided to bet on college basketball games. and also keep in mind this guy brings a ton of experience and his real job will be grooming bryant young.

This guy is a great D line coach... as a player he was the captain of an Ohio State national champion team under Woody Hayes. As a coach he survived four head coaching changes at Washington... his trademark is absolute toughness in the trenches which people in the know (unlike you) say he learned from his playing days under Hayes. He is just the right guy to mentor B. Young who CW is grooming as the next D Line coach at Notre Dame. Your piss poor post
was most likly a reactionary post about one season at Washington. By the way,the defensive line played well for them last year and the best player on the team is a D lineman.

You make some decent points, but I don't know if I would call this guy "great". You can sugar coat the reasons, but the fact of the matter remains that he has been a position coach at a Pac-10 program that was only top tier in the nation for a few of his 21 years. Maybe he hasn't had the aspirations to be a D-coordinator, but in an inherently transient profession, I question a guy who has stayed at the same school and in the same position for more than 2 decades. Was it his choice or was it for other reasons? I am not saying he is not a good fit and won't be a good mentor to show Bryant Young the ropes, but I don't think he is going to revamp the play of the DL. I am not the most knowledgeable person out there, but, until yesterday, I had never even heard of the guy.

Here's a article on Randy that I haven't seen posted here yet:

Scout.com: Washington Loses its Hart

Now, the article is written by a friend of his, so take it for it's worth. But it does bring up some good points. I like the fact that he is old-school to the heart, and he demands toughness, nastiness, and hard work. He pushed his kids as hard as anyone. Reminds me of something Coach Alford just said at his own press conference on Friday: "I'm not here to be their friends." And OCIrish, I get what you're saying about still being a D-Line coach for so long, but some guys know where their bread is buttered, and are content to excel in that area. The fact that 4 different coaches chose to keep him instead of bringing in their own guys says a ton to me.

He's also recruited the northwest for decades, and that is where Jappy recruited, and, of course, is where top '10 QB Jake Heaps is from. That doesn't hurt either. He won a NC at UW, and the guy knows what he's doing. It definitely wasn't the 'name' hire we were looking forward, and it's not 'sexy', but I like what I'm reading so far. And he's at the age where he'll be more willing to groom Young for the job. I'm willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. In fact I'm starting to really like the hire...

Nice post NDinLA, looks like a good hire to me. The hire was going to have to be someone who didnt want to be a defensive coordinator, because that position is already filled by Brown and Tenuta, and who would mentor young to be the eventual DL coach. Guess he is our guy......kinda would have liked to see Stripling be the guy instead, but really who else fits into those categories besides them two..... The rest that were being mentioned were just to big of names to fit into such a role in the staff.

Can we just go through one season before we throw this guy under the bus!!!

Seriously this guy has got experience and could mentor BY for a season or two. I don't mind the hire. Most of this board would be bashing Crennel if he was hired and he happened to be CW's #1 option. At least this guy has legit exp. in the college ranks and knows how to recruit...I think he just might be working with a bit more talented d-lineman at ND than at U-dub the last 10 years...Lets see what he can do..

They better friggen give him a chance.

I have said before - a great athlete is often a very humble person.

Thanks for the post my friend. Always good.

Allows me to procrastinate instead of saving my life.

I'm sure Bambi meant to type masterbate instead of procrastinate. Deer have a very limited vocab.

What happened to Mike Hart?

What happened to Mike Hart?

Has anyone heard what's going on with Mike Hart or the D-Line vacancy?

Hope it worked out with Hart. He sounds like a good choice to me. Tons of experience, lots of results (even during an 0-12 year, his unit may have been the best on the field). Perfect guy to mentor Bryant Young as well.
