In the Rivals' article on Alford's announcement is:

"Former Irish defensive lineman Bryant Young, who went on to 14-year NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers, and former Notre Dame offensive lineman Tim Grunhard, who played 11 seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs, are expected to fill positions usually reserved for anonymous young coaches looking to break into the business.

A source tells Irish Illustrated that Young is "on board" after verbally agreeing to the position. Grunhard, currently the coach at Bishop Miege High School outside Kansas City, will interview on Tuesday with expectations that he'll accept. Grunhard started at guard on the 1988 national championship team."

QB coach - Montana or Clements?

Grunhard is not "expected" to accept. He has been offered the job but all indications are that he is going to stay in KC.

As sad as it is...Ron Powlus is still the QB coach, so why would there be a change there?

BlueandGold.com // Grunhard Decision Pending

Very good write-up on the whole situation. It looks like CW and the staff pulled out all the stops, and he gives CW a HUGE amount of love and respect. I don't see it happening because of hs love for his family and the roots he's established in KC, but CW and ND has really given him something to at least think about...

I want to go on record after being critical of Charlie this past year. I have said all along that he is a stud, just look at his health this year and the way he handled all our barbs. I for one said that he needed retooled in motivation and the college game but never did I question his desire for ND or his intellect. What he is doing now with these coaching changes and bringing in these past great players ( sons of ND ) is exactly what needed to be done. This man gets it and I for one stand corrected, he is the person to get this done. It is obvious that next year he is putting in all his chips for the entire pot. My hope is that he is successful in this effort so all can see the success and shut up those who are jealous of this great school. The players are in place and success while bring more players and like I have said all along once the train starts rolling other schools will stand aside. The pull and power of Notre Dame football stands alone and these other schools know that. Why else would a young man have academic issues and still want to come back get his degree and play for an icon in American sport. I can hear the train coming, I just cant see it yet.

Well written my friend. My thoughts exactly. CW knows that this is his last chance and he is doing whatever he can to make this program elite. I am just happy to say that we have a HC who truly loves the university and is doing his best to help it succeed. To have elite players from the past come back goes to show you how much CW cares. He is trying his ass off for us to be successful. The results may not have come yet but his efforts are really unlike anything I've ever seen.....

Word on the street in K.C. is Grunny is going to stay here.

Hopefully, that "word on the street" is coming from some drunk homeless person that doesn't know shit from shiola on the subject matter. Come on Grunny, take that leap of faith and move back to SB!

Thats funny, sadly it didn't come from a drunken hobo, came from coaches from his league. Take it for what its worth, the quote was "On Monday he is going to announce staying, b/c his wife said no."

Stupid women. First Urban's wife prevents him from taking this job, now Grunhards. Why don't they stay in the kitchen and STFU. (just kiddin' ladies)

Should have brought his wife to S.B. If I were Jenkins and Charlie, I'd have promised Notre Dame scholarships for his four kids.
If Grunhard is still with ND when his kids graduate, the employee rule applies. Even if not....
$180,000 (4 yrs) x 4 =...

In an announcement that surprised no one, Grunhard is staying in K.C.

BlueandGold.com // Grunhard Staying Put

Some nice nuggets in the article:

* For those who don't know, he has one of the top wideouts in the nation, Justin McCay, already being recruited heavily by FL among others, so we have an 'in' there.

* He voted to come, but the rest of his family voted to stay. But coaching at ND is still a dream of his.

No problem with this decision, hope he succeeds at his high school, still Charlie is on the right track, there are other sons of ND to offer Grad Asst jobs, I can hear the train coming and lets hope for a few pleasant surprises on signing day,

How many of his sons and daughters does Joe M. have going to ND? Solution: send the kids to ND and take a job there.

Lol. True, however, they are not eligible to attend class for a couple years. I am from the KC area and he was on a local am show this afternoon and he said the timing wasn't right. In my mind that means that in a couple of years we may still see him on the sidelines for as he called them, his Fighting Irish............

I think it would be great but for now we will have to wait, and he is making it clear his immediate family comes before his football family, and that is ok in my mind.
