This from a free article on BGI:
Frank Verducci is going to hold his offensive linemen accountable for their play, which every coach tries to do but seemingly only a few are successful. His players don’t like him until they are done playing for him. It is absurdly unfair to set up such enormous expectations for Verducci by comparing him to Joe Moore, but in this one aspect, the two have similar reputations. Moore was no player’s best friend until after the player finished playing for him.
Fantastic. Almost everything I hear about the guy I love. I don't care if Sam Young and Trevor Robinson hate him, I just want him to get them BETTER and NASTIER. And I thought he'd be a huge fat-ass, but he's not; his upperbody buldges out and he seems to command respect from his players. His whole thing is that he wouldn't have left the pros for any job except ND, and that he wants to develop these linemen. Yeah, Latina said the same things, but I really get a great vibe from this guy. And you simply couldn't do worse than Latina was doing.
And hopefully CW is starting to get it. In college, you have to develop players; you have to develop talent. This ain't the pros. Between this Verducci, who talks about development, and Alford and Young et al, hopefully CW is showing us that he gets the fact that this is a completely different animal than the pros. Lord knows he can recruit, but he has to develop these guys. I'm just getting a really good vibe about the direction we're going...
