at beating usc in a long time? its mustains turn and he aint no slouch but i think next year has to be the best shot we've had in a while. despite back2back2back blowouts I think the talent level is starting to even out between us and them.

I think this game sets up a lot like the 05 game. Our talent level on offense is catching up to what USC has. USC is losing a ton and will have a less experienced defense then they have had in awhile and the game is at home, early in the season where USC might still be adjusting to new coach's and personnel. I think this is not only our best shot at beating them in awhile but I think this is the start of the rivalry being played on level footing from here on out.

USC does have Mitch Mustain coming in at QB. They will still have 5 Stars at every position. Should be very interesting how we come together. I have never seen a team have the same core 3 years in a row. It could be our year.

The feeling out here from the USC people I talk to is that the QB position is wide open. Mustain is not the shoe-in whatsoever. He hasn't grasped the offense (pro offenses are harder to run than the SEC offense he ran) in 2 years, and now they just hired the former Broncos asst coach to run their offense, which means more new things to learn for Mustain. They say Aaron Corp had the same problems as Mustain, but there was a time that Corp was ahead of Mustain on the depth chart. Corp can run, and you know the Broncos offense featured a ton of bootlegs.

And then you have the x factor, Matt Barkeley, the incoming freshman who has a HOSE for an arm. He was the Gatorade POY as a friggin junior. He struggled at the beginning of this year but was a man amongst boys the 2nd half of the year. Many people think that by midway through the season he'll be starting at QB.

So who knows what USC's offense will be like when they see us? The spring time QB battle will be huge, and then the winner of that one will have to beat out the freshman stud as well in the summer.

If ND is gonna finally break the streak, next year will be a great chance at home...

Is having a Hose for an arm a good thing?

I thought Hose were worn by women.

Or Rutgers basketball ladies.

I think this is the best shot we've had in a while..I've said it before, and I'll say it again. SC's QB play is up in the air. Why do you think Petey practically begged Sanchez into staying? Who by the way threw 3 pics himself against us... Mustain makes too many bad decisions and so does Corp. No way Barkely starts. He threw A LOT of pics last year in HS...Too much confidence in his arm, he is talented though. I think ND could definitely win this game if they show up and avoid mistakes.

From what I have seen, they are solid at every position across the board. Their depth is second to none. Literally. If they have to play it a bit more conservative b/c their QB isn't a gunslinger yet, they'll still be fine.

We are still miles away from being at their level. Could we upset, sure. Likely? Not really.

May I remind you that Syracuse was miles away from being at our level last year and...you do remember the outcome of that game. We can win the game....but only if we think we can. Think that you can't and it's almost guaranteed that you won't. Have faith!

interesting question because our team in 2005 was better than what our team will be next season but USC's team next year won't be as good as their 2005 team either. I would have to say that in 2005 our chances were better...and that won't change until I know that our offensive line is fixed.

USC is always going to be a tough game, but next year will be closer than this year..... at least I hope.

Right now I am more worried about Nevada than USC. In order to have a good year in 2009, they need to get off to a good start. nevada is a very good team.
