Which Way Would You Prefer Our Season Ended?

OK, let's say it's before the Syracuse game, and we're 6-4. There are 2 scenarios I want you to think about:

1. We end the season just like we did. Lose to pathetic Syracuse, hammered by USC (pretty much a given), and then kill Hawaii.

OR

2. Beat Syracuse, lose to USC, then probably have a loss against a much better bowl opponent (we might have won, but I think all the criticism really woke the guys up).

It's a tough call. With scenario #2, we don't get the crap we heard for a month, but then we go into the offseason with a bad taste in our mouths, which is bad for recruiting, and we also wouldn't have gotten Te'o to get such a good look at us ( which might be for naught, but you never know).

With the way it is now, with the way we played vs. Hawaii, many of us are now pumped for 2009 because of the potential we saw, CW got a respite from the criticism (until Nevada that is!!!) and he seems settled in, and the young kids that shined have huge confidence going into the offseason and next year.

I took a HUGE amount of heat down here in SoCal after we lost that Syracuse game, and I was a s down as I've been as an ND fan in loooooong time. It was worst than last year for me. BUt that Hawaii game renewed my faith. Damn we looked good. Nay, great. I know it was only Hawaii, but at least we have HOPE. If we lost the bowl game, I would have heard 8 1/2 months of shit-talking. Now at least the heat has been off somewhat since the game. In fact it's been pretty damn nice. With the Syracuse loss, I heard only a month of shit-talking. So I'm going to say scenario 1, the way we ended the season.

I don't blame anyone for choosing #2, because losing to Syracuse was practically sinful. Unforgivable. I just want to know what you guys think.

P.S. I already know that scenario #3 would be better. That is, beat Syracuse AND win a bowl game. Just bear with me here! Peace, and Happy New Year...

Since you are talking hypothetically, you might as well throw in which opponent in which bowl game. Fun question....

Good point. People were talking Rice in the Texas Bowl (or El Paso bowl???). They laid the wood to Western Michigan...

Or how about Vandy? I would hate that! Never hear the end of it.

I am thinking option 1 is best. Apparently the way ND won the game (fell asleep split second before kickoff with a cold one and some Cracker Jacks in hand - still haven't picked up stray Jacks...), maybe they now have confidence in the system. Maybe they may now BELIEVE. That is the most important thing.

Lil dogs next year.

Can't friggen wait.

How about win against Syracuse, win against USC and win against Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl?

I thought people were actually saying that we might have been taken in the Gator Bowl had we finished 7-5. If that were the case, we might have matched up against either Clemson or Nebraska. I would have loved to play Nebraska, since they travel so well like we do. I honestly was hoping for that matchup. Two of the most dominating teams from the 80's on their way back up.

Well, if we are just talking hypothetically i would say beat all the teams we had double digit leads on. That would be Syracuse,NC,Pitt....

beat Michigan St. or BC, which i think honestly we could have been in either game (Tate knocked out of bounds by our guy on a PR=14pt swing, Kamara pulls down Clausen longball for TD vs. Mich.St instead of letting wiley rip it away=another 14pt swing.) either one makes us a 10 win team.

Go to a BCS bowl vs. Cincinatti, Penn St, Ohio State, or VT and have a chance to win. Especially Cincinatti, i think we could have took em guys. Remember they almost lost to Hawaii.

But yeah, none of this matters. Team didnt have the killer instinct, play calling very very questionable, and lets face it, they played like shit especially without Floyd and Smith after Navy game.

ummmmm, okay. Yeah, know that. The season is already over, we were just playing fantasy here....

I think he was joking and it was pretty funny. Both senerios provided in this thread were not fantasies, they were posible realities. What you preposed was far more than a fantasy it was a pipe dream. There was not a snow balls chance in hell we were even going to compete in the SC game, and there is no shame in that because no one else did either.

As for the quest. proposed I believe the way we ended was perfect. I attended the 'Cuse game, it was horible watching the boys lose to those shit bags. In fact, when they took the field I said to my friend,"these guys have like 40 guys, they look like a hs team." Then they not only played with us, they beat us. Being beat senseless by SC was inevitable, but hurt either way.

Then we took the field for the Hawaii Bowl...............Many of you said for weeks, what if we lose. It was a good question, but we didn't not lose. WE KICKED THIER ASS! Now I ask each and everyone of you.

What could be better than winning you last game(essentialy on the road)on Christmas Eve, in front of the whole country?

option 1 without a doubt... Got to see the Irish in thier dark blues destroy hawaii live in person. Unless i travel to South Bend i may never get to see the Irish in thier home uniforms.

also, alot of my Hawaii friends kept on saying how if Hawaii and ND played Hawaii would kill them... Made some $$$ of the game of ya know what im saying..

Ok you got me. A national title would be nice since we are talking out our ass now. I was saying what could have been better from the senerios listed. Obviously it would be nice to win a bcs game but that was never a serious option.

I think the way we ended was great and it showed the world what Jimmy is capable of given time, and M. Floyd being on the field. We go into signing day on a high note for the recriuts, and into the offseason with a taste of victory on our lips.(With it being the Hawaii Bowl in the back of our minds) These guys responded well to whatever the staff did. Regardless about it being Hawaii, look we played great and that had nothing to do with our compatition.
