yes it was nice to end the bowl streak and watch ND kick some ass, but the season was still a disappointment. Next season determines where this program really stands with weis. Found a nice REALISTIC article about ND winning that bowl game and the state of the program today. Thought some people might find it interesting. Then again, im sure some people will just bitch.

We won a bowl game for the first time in 15 years. How about you sit back and enjoy that? Everyone knows next year is the true measuring stick this isn't news to anyone. If your going to be negative about everything this team, or players on this team do go to a USC board and fill it with this. I'm as realistic as fans go, but enjoying a bowl win no matter how poor a bowl is something I have looked forward to for a long time.

Um.... get a life bro! Enjoy ND for what it is. Yeah I would like to win a BCS game every year but that is not realistic. Its all coming together don't worry and quit being pesimistic.

We won a bowl game....... Thats success!!

Provocative article though everybody is entitled to have a point of view.

The author, Chris Bracey, is simply a wannabe young sports writer appealing to the 'other side' out there.
And the website, "bleacher report", is just that, nothing more.

Just another article to me. ND is bashable right now and there is nothing we, as fans, can do about it. I was listening to sports radio here in Memphis yesterday and the announcer said the Dallas Cowboys were the Fighting Irish of the NFL, lots of talent with no where to go and nobody leading them. Just can't argue with them right now. I wanted to call in an blast them but, where is MY firepower? Many have said it on this forum, we just have to win to shut everyone up.

I bet Hawai'i has more guys drafted into the NFL this year than the Irish do. Hawaii is really not that bad a team. I was suprised that the Irish beat them so soundly. They played in the Sugar Bowl last year and got out played too. Sound familiar? Be pround of this win. Its a bowl win. Against a bowl team. Do you realize that next year Nevada and UConn are going to be bowl teams on the schedule and Michigan and Purdue are not?

A win is a win, you should be proud that we won a bowl game. And we kicked *ss for once. Just because we didn't beat someone like USC doesn't make it a bad win. It's good for the program. Like someone already said sit back and enjoy this one. If you are a true fan than you will enjoy this win...............

Exactly. We do that and then everyone should start to STFU. They will still bitch and try to tear us down, but it will be ticky tacky crap.

I think we all knew a win in the bowl game would be discarded by just about everyone. That article is probably the tenth to come out about us and say the exact same thing. It is a very easy article to write. Don't research Hawaii and their players, they are Hawaii why take them seriously or the Hawaii bowl seriously. Does they win mean we are BCS contenders next year? Nope, but the same can be said for all the other bowl winners. It means you won your last game. In the case of UF and OU it means you won the NC. Players and coaches leave, get suspended, change their attitude, and all other kinds of things happen between January and September to change a teams chemistry and make up. The bowl win for us gets one monkey off our back. No matter what bowl game we go to next year, the streak is at 1 and not 10. The players got a great vacation, felt that winning feeling again, and hopefully found some confidence. Confidence is what I hope they bring with them next year, confidence that they can win every game. I, as I life long fan, am happy we won and the experts were proven wrong again. Enjoy this win and worry about 2009 when fall practice starts and we know who is with us and who is against us.

The question of the thread: The Hawaii Bowl...who cares?

The answer: I care, and so do real ND fans.

The real question: You hate ND, and you'll say anything that makes us look bad....who cares?

The answer: I don't; I don't give a shit what outsiders who only throw hate say. If you're objective, fine. I love the dialogue. If you're a narrow-minded fool....fu** off.

Thanks NDFLA. I am just getting tired of the same ole thing. Even on other ND sites, people disregarding the bowl win. Last time I check Hawaii was in the FBS division, gave scholarships, and paid their coaches. I understand the disappointment in the season, especially after the start, but it is over and it ended on a good note. Again, media people have claimed we are irrelevant now. If we are I would hate to see what happens when we are relevant, because we sure do get a ton of coverage now.

I agree with pretty much everything said here. This win was a good one, and it meant a lot. However, I do HOPE that we don't get content with the Hawaii bowl EVERY year. This year, ok, next year, not Ok.

dude...couldn't agree more...why is that when some of these "writers" want to show how bad cw is, they have to make some "funny" reference to his weight...don't really care what kind of coach he is, his weight has shit to do with it

I CARE that ND won. I ALWAYS want ND to win! It was great to see them really put it to Hawaii. Now I want to see them carry this on to 2009 and be more successful.

Well fellas, i figured that was for the most part the response my post and the article was going to get..... and for those of you who say im not a ND fan, trust me when i say you dont know me at all. I havent missed watching a game since my freshman year in HS.(minus my sisters wedding, n i was pissed) I enjoyed watching ND win, truly did, but it was hawaii, who we should always beat. Not exactly my idea of a successful season. Flordia beat em, we beat em, were we a successful team like flordia? no. I want ND to be GREAT, not medicore....you all do too, but i will not sit back and say "wow, we won the hawaii bowl, successful season!" Until ND is back among the college football elite, i wont be happy.

I'm in no way saying it was a successful season, not at all. But it was a successful END to the season, and it could be used as a springboard for the offseason workouts, and perhaps next year's season. That's up to the players and coaches. And I don't care that we played Hawaii. It was just nice for us to beat someone into submission like we should. Gives me hope for next season.

We're not idiots; we know it was only Hawaii, and no one here is satisfied. But as bad as we have been for the past 2 years, it was nice to get that win, and I'm not going to let people try to dampen my spirits with the same old tired crap that we expected to hear after we won. We're still mediocre, we know that, but there is hope for the future, and the future was on full display vs. a decent team at their home field. Can't wait for next year! We're not BCS by any stretch of the imagination IMO, but we might be getting there. Time will tell, but I'm excited...

Thank you. It was good to see a blow out without having to kick the coffee table and scream at the tv for the majority of the game. Nobody here with any logical sense is saying NC in '09!!! I mean even their screens were working!!! I care that they won and I'm happy that they did.

Hey everyone - Happy New Year!!!

What a wonderful early Christmas gift to see the Irish bounce back with an unbelievable win over Hawaii last week!!! I for one am psyched, and could care less what the a-hole haters continue to spout off about.

I just wanted to show everyone this bit of info that I found, of all places, on Wikipedia, concerning a certain ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE team, that I think we may be familiar with, that describes their accomplishments in 2007:

"....The 2007 Alabama Crimson Tide tried to improve from a disappointing 6–7 record in the 2006 season. The Tide was led by its new head coach Nick Saban, a former head coach of rival LSU. Despite a strong 6–2 start, they finished out the season by losing 4 of their 6 final games. The team closed the regular season at 6–6 (4–4, SEC) and lost for a sixth-straight time to rival Auburn. The Tide defeated Colorado in the 2008 Independence Bowl 30–24 to finish their first season under Nick Saban at a 7–6 (4–4) record."

WOW, I mean, does this sound familiar to anyone else but me??? Let's see - Notre Dame Irish squad - looking to improve from a miserbale '07 season (3 W's), heads into 2008 season, starts off strong with a 5-2 start, then finished out the season by losing 4 of their final 5 regular season games. And we lose for the um-teenth time in a row to OUR rival, USC. BUT, the Fighting Irish go on to end the season on a high note, much like the Tide of '07, defeating Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl, to finish the season with a 7-6 record.

I mean, come on!! The similarities are unreal here!! And I think we all know how THIS year's Alabama squad performed - one game away from a NC invite. So, my friends, the point of ALL of this is simply to say that I am sure there were MULTIPLE nay-sayers one year ago, looking at Alabama after the Independence Bowl, and pontificating as to how meaningless a win THAT game was, and how it said absolutely nothing about the Alabama football program. Well, one year later, I think we can all see that they were wrong. And in one year from now, we'll see once again just how wrong they all are.

Go Irish!!

The whole ironic thing about this "who cares" gig is, for all the sports-writers, announcers and commentators who do not care that we won --- they all had Hawaii picked to win the game. Shit, even Vegas has odds out that we would lose by 1.5 points. Screw all of them, we won ---- period.
