It's not looking too good for the Irish here. All indications point to Jamarkus being another one of Texas' early in-state verbals.

Say what you want about Mack Brown and his coaching, but the guy flat out puts a border around Texas and doesn't let ANYONE in.

OU gets in and steals some major talent, and LSU will get some prospects, but he's got that state on lockdown.

Not knocking our staff, because it was kind of like this last year. But why is it this year, most of the guys we have offered, seem like an extreme stretch to come to ND? I'm not saying we wont get any of them, just it seems like we are putting really far reaching schollies on the table.

As well we should. We should be offering the top 3 at every need only regarding grades in the non-offers. No matter how hard they lean or how long they've been a fan of a certain team. In recruiting, as we all know, nothing is sure. For all we know, this kid could wind up at Stanford or Colorado. We just never know and might as well offer and try and build a relationship.

Who knows. Look at KLM this year.:)

I was thinking the same thing.

Texas got in the game very very late with KLM, that's what turned him off to them.

I know, but thats only one or two cases from last year. Everytime we offer someone, they really, really seem to be leaning another way. I'm quite an optimist, but this seems to be case we nearly all of them.

There are plenty of kids, that would be considered premium recruits and would love to attend ND. It's so early in the process wait until after the 24th and they'll be comming out of the woodwork.

3-9 has a large part to do with that.

Agreed. Not matching up well and being competitive with the elite programs the last couple of years has an impact too. We start beating USC and Michigan with some consistency again, and we'll be in better shape.

I think a lot of the 'far-reaching'-ness has to do with some of the regions of the early recruits. We seem to be putting a lot of effort into texas for example, and that is always a tough area to go into with recruiting (for ND). ND also can't just go after the people that are locks anyway, or we would be back to Ty days. It will work out eventually with people that are seemingly a real stretch (like Crist was considered) ending up in a gold helmet.

How would Jamakus play for the Irish? Is he expected to grow into a NT body or would they have him as the NT/DT tweener?

YouTube - JaMarkus McFarland Highlights

Here is the highlight film from YouTube I found on Jamarkus. He is more of a project than I had heard. He is a very large individual and he does move pretty good for a big guy, but his technique leaves a lot to be desired. He plays very high, he defeats blocks more with his god-given strength than his hands and his lateral play isn't as strong as a NT/DT should be. I guess I was expecting more for someone Rivals and Scout ranks so high.

Committed to OU. Good to hear, glad it wasnt Texas or USC. Here is an article on the recruiting process from the NY times. Interesting to hear about some of the recruiting tactics from USC, Texas, OU, and LSU. Whore, Drugs, Lemos, and Loans and payment for a recruits committed services. Nice. Link below. (didnt give too much dirt on USC though.)

that acticle kinda made me sad about recruiting. I'm so gonna read the meat market. I really must say that things like that bank account biz and him not even wanting to visit anymore by plain and simple stalking and stuff just makes me annoyed. (yes i know it happens everywhere but still)
