Why Would Urban Come To Notre Dame?

Agreed that is a nice find. But I 'll be honest with you. I dont think that he will wait until all his kids are grown up.

This is how I see the scenario playing out. I think Charlie will get this program back to going to BCS bowls, much like he has already done. But we wont be able to break through to the title game, and eventually the administration will get fed up. Charlie will last another 3-4 years, and at that point, Urban will come. He will have won a 3rd national championship at Florida and will be bored.

Of course this is all just a guess and I could be completely wrong, but I wouldnt be surprised if something similar to that happens.

For those of you who say Urban will NEVER come to ND, with all due respect, I think that is being naive. He is only 40 years old, probably will coach for another 20 years or so, so to say he will never come here, well how do you know? Can you get me the powerball numbers too? That would be fantastic

Thank you for being honest.

I tend to agree with this post

HAHAHAHAHA. yea, im going to bring this back up in a year when i assume Charlie finally gets the boot and Notre Dame want to get a GOOD HC, and look to every possibility to find the best candidate for the job. who is there waiting but a man who has all the genius, heart, and intangibles to make notre dame a national champion once again. (playmakers check, nationally recruiting power check, and a chance to be a legend forever in football history check) LOVE IT!

Feel free to keep an eye on it...all the wishes in the world won't make it happen. Thank god, ND dodged a bullet back in 2004.

Love his take or hate his take, Lovemyirish is consistent. He's said from the beginning he didn't want Meyer hear because of his (lackof) ethics. He's taken a beating from many posters because of it, but at least he stands by what he believes in. He'd rather ND lose than have to lower their standards and accept less than reputable people representing ND, coaches and players included.

Now, others want ND to win no matter what, because they root for the football team not the university persay. Others are more in the middle (myself included). But Lovemyirish has made his line in the sand. I can't fault a guy for standing by his convictions, even if I disagree to a certain degree. People just have differing opinions; nothing wrong with that...

yes he has stuck by his convictions, but i just think they are wrong. Urban Meyer is a great head coach and a great person. i want Notre Dame to win and to be a great academic institution, but the problems in the admissions office are not only a problem for urban, but are also a problem for charlie. good hard working kids with dedication and heart are being turned away from the university because of Standardized test scores. this is WRONG!Urban Meyer hasnt shown any "liar" qualities that these ignorant people bring up. He didnt come to ND in 04 because ND offered late, he loves his family, and seen a better opportunity at flordia to be with them. Many of our recruits have chosen Flordia over ND because they want to play for Urban more than Charlie. "If they are looking, we are looking" doesnt only apply to notre dame and if people think it does they are stupid. Charlie is our coach for next season, if he doesnt put up the record ND deserves, he should get the boot. I believe it very well may happen, and Meyer should be the top choice to be head coach of the Fighting Irish when it does. LMI just cant deal with the truth.

That's fine to think he's wrong, and that's fine to think CW should've been fired. I'm not arguing that point one way or the other. I'm just saying, for those newbies to this board, that LMI has been saying this for a long time, and jumping all over him is a waste of time because it's been done a thousand times before.

If and when CDub gets the boot next year, you can beg for Meyer and put him at the top of your list all you want, but it ain't happening yet. He stated very clearly, as you put it, that family comes first, and he ain't leaving until his kids graduate. So based on that statement alone, you admit that he's not leaving because he's a man of his convictions and not the liar that you say people incorrectly portray him to be (I'm sure those posters will give you examples of why he is a liar). Now, if he does leave next year, do you still want him? Because now he's pulling a Nick Satan and going against his word, and maybe his family didn't mean as much to him as we thought.

I'm just saying.

Any way you slice it, Mayer ain't coming anytime soon, so as a university we should table that idea until he sends out feelers that he wants to come. Or else, every coach will be looking over his shoulder at any HINT of losing because people will be screaming for Meyer (well, that's already actually happening even though he said he won't come anytime soon).

And Meyer isn't a saint over in FL. He wants to win, and he's recruited some very nefarious characters at FL. Great athletes for sure, but check out their police record. I personally would love to see Meyer here, as long as we stay loyal to what ND is all about. I've thought for a long time that ND's standards need to change if we want to compete seriously for a NC yearly like the SC's of the world. Can we have both high standards AND teams competing for NC's CONSISTENTLY? (I'm not talking about one or 2 great classes of recruits; I mean yearly.) The past 15 years tells us no. I'd love for it to be yes, but....

You don't KNOW that. Its your hunch, which is fine. But you don't know that. He may or he may not. He's a young guy, and what you want to do in life changes as you grow older.

You're absolutely right, I don't KNOW that. No one knows anything for sure. But in the SLIGHT (slight slight slight) chance that he changed his mind and came in the next 2 years, then you can't come back with "he's all about family and he went to FL because of family reasons" or that he's not a liar, because the people of Florida will point to that interview and many others and they'll say that he most definitely is a liar (even if we choose to believe that his life's priorities changed, and he's not a liar)...

He would come to ND for one reason, we're one of his dream jobs. And the other two are preoccupied for a while. He's been here before, he'd come back too.

ESPN - Bruce Feldman Blog

PRICELESS:
While working on "Meat Market" a few years ago, I spoke to one-time UF recruit Jevan Snead and his high school coach. They told a story about Snead getting alarmed when he saw a TV segment on Tim Tebow after noticing Meyer in attendance. Problem was, Meyer had told Snead, committed at the time, that he was the only quarterback they were going after. When Snead asked Meyer about it, Meyer responded, "We are recruiting him for linebacker."

Let's not forget with Trattou how he told him that he would never play him as a down lineman.

Or with Omar Hunter how he lied about Greg Mattison's status with Baltimore.

EVEN BETTER!!!
"He told me that he talked to Coach Carr and Coach Soup and that they told him that I would be a much better fit in the Florida offense than I would be in the one at Michigan," Stonum recalled.

"I thought, wow, my coaches are selling me out? I confronted them about it. I asked Coach Carr and Coach Soup about it, and they said they never talked to that guy and that there was no way they ever said anything like that and that they think I should be a Wolverine. I believed them. Right then, I knew just how Florida rolled."

We had the #1 recruiting class in the country last year. What problem is that?

LMI just cant deal with the truth.

I don't want a lying scumbag as our coach. That's the truth.

lol.

Nbc.

What's wrong with being on TV?

The Irish working to get national attention dates back to Rockne.

Also, being an Independent and not being given good contract terms by Networks dates back to CBS and ESPN's failed bids to get ND.

Why would God's school work to get attention?

Kinda like selling yourself. Agree?

True, NBC bought the tradition, the viewership of the alumni and the haters, regardless of the level of competition. NBC Sports is a joke otherwise. A segmented approach, trying to establish niches instead of the foothold held by ESPN/ABC, and CBS with the Final Four. NBC owns nothing else.

... forgot the Mountain Dew Extreme Sports Series. Very legitimate.

Eventually ESPN/ABC will own any sport broadcast that has a large audience. Then it will be cheaper to go to the game than watch it on TV. They are working towards that now. I remember when watching ESPN meant seeing rugby, and strong man competition and an occasional poker or pool tournament. Now they have locked up the SEC and Monday Night Football (that used to be on free tv). Just wait, it may take awhile, then you will say, " damn that Aralou was right"

P.S. I bet they throw huge cash at the Irish too. Their own personal bitch to slap. I hate ESPN, can you tell?

Somebody did post that. No offense to you IRM, but those words ring hollow now. He had his chance to come here and opted for Florida. That does not mean that he will or could not come here but his "dream job" comments mean very little to me.

I know that he said his wife wanted to move to Florida....yada yada yada. I don't want to be out of line, I know that family comes first, but give me a break. His wife probably doesn't have a job so she sits back and spends Urban's big pay checks. He can't hide behind not being ready for this job, if you're ready for Florida you're ready for ND. If this was his dream than his family could've respected that, after all they do nothing but spend his money. I don't think that ND was his dream job, he was probably just using that to posture for more money or perks at Florida.

None of us really know. We will however, when the job comes open again (likely this time next year). If he doesn't throw his hat in the ring then, then your absolutely right, the whole dream job thing needs to stop. But if he's not all talk, then he'll step up to the plate and do right by her lady and turn this program around. We should all know if he's bullshit or not in 12 months.

He won't come. There is no reason for him to leave Florida. Plus, the warmer weather leads to less clothing present on the bodies of well oiled coeds. Or so my brain tells me.

niche.... 4 year gap.... Skeet Shooting.

The Olympics seem to have fairly universal appeal. Check the ratings. The four year gap is a valid point, niche is not. The money that NBC rakes in from advertisements speaks to the contrary.
