here's what ESPN says about him.

I can't imagine there to be a better long snapper in the country than Cowart. He has a lot of velocity on his punt snaps; very little arc on the 14 yd. snap. Punt snaps are not only fast enough, they are accurate thus making it easy for the punter to handle. Short snaps mirror the long snaps in terms of speed and accuracy. The short snaps are a tight spiral and consistantly hit the holders hands. Cowart also carries a big enough frame to provide solid protection as a snapper. There is no doubt he is destined to be a Division 1 long snapper.

no he doesn't, most long snappers are not huge guys.

I think this is a great find. No only does he come from a great school that has given us some offensive linemen, but he is a specialist who could come in and help immediately. This is like having a Mike Anello on the team (since he does one thing and supposedly does it very well) and is there anybody who doesn't think we would have been worse this year without Anello? I know that many of Walker's misses this year were from bad snaps and I also remember a few of our punts being picked up off the floor.

Rivals and ESPN both say Florida, Mizzou, and a couple other programs were going after him. Is this a scholarship given for the sake of giving out the max total? Is this kid the second comming of the god of longsnapping? I mean... if he's legit... good... but 5 specialists and a walk-on kicker on roster next year? Jeez....

Longsnappers aren't that big. JJ Jansen was around 240 while he was at Notre Dame.

I don't mind this one bit...A snapper is more important that we give them credit for...this could be the diff in us losing a close game due to a bad snap..it has ruined many team's seasons...It is a bit ironic. With that said our special teams better be REALLY special for the next couple of years!

Are you serious? Do you realize how important special teams is?

I guarantee you that you were bitching when Walker was missing all those fg's. But instead of us reruiting another kicker to take his place either right away or when he graduates, you'd rather us, ummm, well, you'd rather us, well, what would you rather us do? Wait until he graduates, then start over with a freshmen kicker who may or may not pan out? And if that kicker gets hurt, then what? And when Maust graduates (he'll be a senior next year), don't you think we need another punter to take his place, or do want JC to do that as well so we can blame him for yet another thing?

And then we get one of the premeir long-snappers in the country, a position not often talked about but vital to a team, and you bitch about that too??? Do you NOT want to win? Do you NOT care about the little things that define championship teams? Or do you want these guys to come to ND on their own dime, and then get mad when we don't get the best players?

Not upset at all that we offered this kid. 4 years of near perfect long snapping, which no one will really recognize, but no one will be pissed about either is a good thing. i cant remember if it was syracuse or navy....but in one of the last game walker missed a chip shot fg because of a high snap and he had to hesitate to kick it. if it was in the syracuse game, the games set and match, we win. Just saying special teams are very important....now idk that much about the kid, and if he comes here and doesnt get the job right away over people who werent recruited as long snappers, i would agree it was a bad choice...but we just dont know yet.

yep well there ya go. problem solved now, we have the best longsnapper recruit in the nation. i dont think they list the rankings on longsnappers but i think he is tops if Flordia was looking at him as well, which i think somebody wrote earlier in this thread....and just a reminder to SoCal or some moderator, he is committed, so please add him to the committed list. thanks.

yep, he actually was recruited by Georgia, Florida, Rutgers and Ohio State as well. Espn grade of 77. not shabby. link below.
