Um, I highly doubt Brown or especially Haywood have done a good enough job to warrant going anywhere (except unemployment). Seriously...have you seen our offense and defense? Brown's unit has been "okay", but Jon Tenuta is far more experienced, proven and a bigger name / defensive mind than Brown. So, if anyone is going to leave, it'd be him. I was shocked they didn't make him the full DC anyway. Haywood just plain sucks.

regarding haywood, it's hard to know what impact weis had on his decisions and if he was truly able to put his signature on this offense. given the ineptitude of our offense at times, i have to believe weis was making some of the calls. i don't think haywood ever had or ever will have a true shake here. i can't handle weis as OC though. i wish there was a good alternative.

Yeah like anybody who thinks running the bubble screen against press coverage is a bad idea. Or anybody who doesn't have enough sense to break away from the plays he scripted when he realizes the net gain is -2 yards. Surely with all of the people here on Irish Envy there has to be someone who has some contact with CW and can please ask him to get rid of all the screens in his playbook. The only problem with that is he may only have two pages in his playbook left.

watching them scramble around on the sidelines in the USC game trying to come up with plays was truly a sad moment.

Haywood, Latina, and Powlus should all be gone, but i only really think latina and haywood will get the boot or leave on their own. I think brown might go to EMU, but i am hoping not the only part of the team that has been pretty good the whole season is the defensive secondary.

Changes to the assistant coaches won't make a difference as long as Chuckles is here. His hideous breed of loser stench will suffocate any hopes of serious improvement.

Oh and some other people who the administration might want to consider giving the boot are the pricks at the admissions office. Keep raising the bar higher and higher till no one can touch the damn thing, thats their motto. We are getting good players right now, but even charlie agrees, admissions has gotten out of hand.....(hince UM not coming here in 04)

I agree w/ you on Haywood and Latina ... if they don't find the door themselves, give them the boot. Powlus, I'm not quite sure about ... whether he really needs to go. A far as Brown, I definitely would like for him to stay around. I think that he still has promise of being good DC, plus he's good for recruiting.

Yeah and since the screens haven't worked all year he hasn't had a clue all year. I'm going to take it upon myself next season to do an independent study and chart how effective the screens are. I'm betting that the average will be negative one or two yards per play. And IMO if the play doesn't get 4 yards on average its not a good football play and you need to chunk it.

Jappy Oliver also needs to be shown the door. He can't recruit (at least I haven't seen his name mentioned during recruiting) and his D line gets no penetration. WE NEED DT's.

No emotion at all during any of the press conferences during fall practice and most of the weekly press conferences (expect for maybe Haywood once or twice) so, you know there's no motivation factor when they're around.
I think Powlus is in way over his head and anyone out there should coach Clausen better than he has.
Latina and Oliver flat out don't belong in South Bend. Latina went from speed speed speed to size size size with the O-line so, you know he's been questioned already about his coaching capabilites.
Tenuta is a building block for the type of mentality a ND coach needs to be.

If no one else goes, at least Latina. I think everyone agrees this is our most glaring problem. The O-Line makes everything else work. If they play to their potential, this offense will be scary.
I read someone suggest trying to hire Andy Heck as the new O-Line coach. I think this would be genius. He played for the dominant Notre Dame teams of the late 80's and has proven himself in the NFL.
As the O-Line goes, so goes this team.

Latina, Oliver, and Haywood can be shown to the door, but I really think we should try to hang on to Brown. Our secondary is definitely improving it is our linebackers and our line that need improvement. I think that Tenuta will be key in their development. Our defense is not in terrible shape and the future looks even brighter for them.

Latina and Mendoza really need to go. Haywood, I think might get a bad rap, I don't know for sure. But Latina should go ASAP and Mendoza needs to be canned soon thereafter. Jappy Oliver will do a good job once he has more ponies in the stable. I hope Brown stays because I like his fire and passion, but I don't think you will be able to keep him out of a HC position for too long. If he doesn't go this year, then next year he will have too many offers to pass up in my opinion.

IMHO, if the line play on both sides improve, these schemes would work but who do we really have a shot at replacing Oliver and Latina? We see what Charlie could do the first 2yrs with decent line play on offense.
