Improvement Ron Powlus has made on Claussen

I feel that an issue that has been overlooked is the role that Ron Powlus has made as the new QB Coach. Many times this year, I have seen the mental grow of Claussen over the past year. This is evident by his looking off safeties and corners. This he did not do last year. The rewards are evident by the increased amount of long pass completions and the defense giving our running game more room from the deep threat.

Disagree. Claussen has not improved, he cannot look a receiver off, his eyes are on the only receiver he intends to throw it to. Also, Powlus has never coached before, think he is the wrong person for the job.

Clausen has improved over last year. The OL is better in pass protection. He has made throws he couldn't last year. The weaknesses are still staring down receivers, and rolling away from pressure instead of stepping up. Unfortunately we have a piss-poor running game and very questionable play-calling. As far as Powlus being a positive, it's anyone's guess.

I think he has improved, I just question whether or not Powlus is the right guy to coach him?

In regards to his coaching experience ,when he was hurt for the 1995 season, his assistance to Tom Krugg, was vital to us making it to the Orange Bowl, and almost defeating one of the best FSU teams ever. Warrick Dunn, Randy Moss, and Danny Kannel to name a few.

He hasn't made any. Clausen is producing when he does on pure talent. He can't read a defense and to me thats coaching. The fact this probably has gone unaddressed by Weis and Pawlus is a joke. Clausen wouldn't be under so much scrutiny and wouldn't have thrown 15 picks if he could even read a defense at a decent rate. Coaching isn't the only problem as anyone who thinks he has anywhere near an adequate Running game or protection is nuts, however coaching isn't helping the problem.

Hmmm. Now that you mention it, I think you're right. I know we were looking at him and he DID want to come here but he only had a 3.9 gpa and that aint good enough for Notre Dame standards. Thats why we dont win!

He got into a big fight and ND dropped him. Then during probation he violated it by smoking marijuana and FSU dropped him.

For all of those who want ND to lower standards to win and say we will never win without lower standards, you may want to really think about not rooting anymore. I don't see ND lowering standards. For my money, one of the problems in today's world is the constant lowering of standards to make goals more attainable. Plus, if you think we won't ever win unless we lower standards, then why do you want Weis gone? It won't make a difference who we bring in if we keep the high standards. Isn't that right?

Actually Moss didn't go to ND because he was involved in a racial fight in HS that put one kid in the hospital. Because of that be pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and ND pulled his scholarship. This was all after he already signed his LOI to ND.

If I remember correctly he was a signed commitment to the Irish. He got into some trouble and liked to smoke the weed. He was released from ND and went to FSU. I am not sure if he ever played for them because he got into trouble again and went to jail. I think. He only played at Marshall for two years. If my memory is correct.

yeah it was a racial fight after he signed his LOI. ND actually suggested he go to FSU since Bowden had a rep for straightening people out. He had to sit out a year because the NCAA considered him a transfer. During his red-shirt year he got caught smoking weed and lost his scholly at FSU transfered to Marshall so he could play right away, they were D-I AA then.

Judging from the majority of your posts NDOM it appears you are the last stoner on the planet. Just kidding man, I dont know why it is not legal. It is not any more impairing than pills or booze.

I just recently began this past summer. Took a guided trip up in Stanley, ID in the Sawtooth Mountain range. Part learning off the river and part learning on the river. And actually, the river up there is the Salmon not the Snake. I just always think of the Snake. I will be filling my schedule with more fishing this year. We can actually fly fish the Boise River but that's more for just getting out and casting without really hoping to catch anything.

Considering I was the ND Kicker, Kevin Kopka #20 for the 1995 season and I am Friends with Randy, and a ND Teammate Bobby Howard went to high school with him. I saw Randy at the PRE GAME party at Dan Marinos Resturant in Coconut Grove.

For all of you so can insiders, We did offer randy Moss a scholarship, but he was arrested for weed, we dropped him, and FSU signed him on condition he pass a drug test, but he failed due to weed again, So he then went to Marshal.Sometimes, the kicker is even right.

Clausen has improved...at throwing to the wrong receiver. Sorry, Clausen is overrated and should get passed up on the depth chart by Crist if a new coach gives them equal opportunity. Casey was the best of the Clausen clan, and I'm not sure that's saying a whole lot.

I don't think Powlus is the right guy for this job. Any improvements made this year were done by Clausen himself. He does have much more to prove.
