I'm not real up on this because It's been a couple years since the irish have gone to a bowl and those were BCS.
To start with just because a team goes 6-6 doesn't mean it goes to a bowl.Only teams with a 7-5 record are selected first.The big east right now has everyone except syracuse that can be bowl eligible.
louisville is not bowl eligible,but will be at 6-6 with a win
rutgers will finish either 7-5 or 6-6.
that's going to be 5 or 6 teams with a better record then notre dame.

It's to my understanding that if the cotton bowl wanted notre dame at 7-5 then they could choose them(period),but I don't know at 6-6
I'm not saying their integrity wouldn't be questioned taking notre dame over probable LSU,since they have to select from the west division
But the cotton bowl does (I believe) have the option of taking notre dame (regardless of record) if they choose once every 4 years.However it is,they would be playing I think second place big12 since that's a pretty big bowl

The same holds true for the gator and sun...they have that option once every four years to pick notre dame if they choose,but once again notre dame being 6-6 has thrown complications into this.

The sun has to take the pac10 team in order of finish and I believe that's 3rd or4th place finsher.

I'm not sure what the gator does with the acc,but it won't be some has-been 6-6 team either.
So if notre dame goes to a bowl it will be against a team with a much better record and I'm quite sure someone will want to come along and educate me in the cherrios bowl.
one problem...the bus is retired.
sorry about the pessimism,but this team is flat,can't come from behind anymore, and can't hold a lead.

I say go to the bowl for the extra practice.

We'll go to a bowl. Although right now I think we should pull a 1996 and decline to participate in a bowl. Although back then, 8-3 was unacceptable for us. Something's missing, and I don't want any more ammo for the haters.

As much as I say decline it, we need the practice. ND has about as much chance to go 12-0 as they have at beating USC this year.
Don't you think Petey McWestcoast is going to take extra pleasure in Charlies pain as they roll up 70 on us? Scooped Shaq, took this other guy? No probably, 4th & goal, 10 seconds to play in the 4th, go for 6!

Does it make a difference what bowl we got to? They're gonna get smoked by anyone they play right now. They'll have a month to sit and stew over the blow out USC is about to put on them, then what. Wow,maybe the International bowl will take us in Toronto and they can play SUNY Buffalo. What a moral victory that would be for a 4 time Super Bowl winning coach and the 3 consecutive top 10 recruiting classes he's brought in.

Who wants the Irish to lose, right? I'm with you, I would be clear that I am booing CW, not the players. I have really been let down by the coach. I think one of the main reasons is that he boldly and arrogantly said what he was going to do and things that were never going to happen again and nothing has come to that. It has been a real disappointing result with CW.

Ditto! I still stand by my ealier comments saying a 6-6 team (especially ND with this year's schedule) doesn't deserve a bowl bid! I know, I know, ND didn't make up the rule, but you have to admit that NCAA screwed up big time letting teams with less than a winning record allowed to even get a bowl bid! Unfreakin' believable!!!
