very well written article, with a lot of good points.

I agree with most of what this has to say, but the bottom line is this:
In recruiting such wonderful athletes to come to Notre Dame, Charlie Weis has, in effect,
created a situation of tragic irony - if you HAVE the best recruits, and yet you DON'T HAVE production (5,6,7 losses per year), then one could certainly argue that you MUST blame the coaching. No longer can we fall back on the argument that "the academic standards are too strict" or "no one can recruit at Notre Dame", because Weis has done just that. But in doing so, he has created a situation which will seal his own fate. That is, unless he turns things around, and I mean in a hurry.

Thanks BD. Nice to be on board. I have to say, I really love this site - everyone who posts here has very good insight, and I learn a lot coming in here.

By the way, I can see you are a big Chicago fan? From Fort Wayne, huh? My wife is from South Bend, and we love it out there! Coming back for the cuse game next week.

I don't think any ND fan will complain about CW as a recruiter. But if the recruits don't produce on the field then there will be problems. ND was 3-9 last year and I believe that they would be just as bad this year except that the schedule is much softer this year than last. We are seeing some little signs of progress... not as many sacks....Tate and Floyd becoming a solid pair of wideouts. However, I am unhappy with the lack of a running game and the inability of the defense to stop the run. If all the players return next year and based on the schedule anything below 9-3 or 10-2 would be a major disappointment

If we don't win against Navy on Saturday, I don't think Charlie should even board the plane home. I hope to God he can turn this thing around. Go Irish!

Impressive wins over Navy & Syracuse, and a good fight against SC...plus a bowl win against anybody in any fashion is the best we can hope for this year. It would give momentum leading into 2009, which we can only hope will be leaps and bounds better than this year.

at the beginning of this season everyone was all over the place with predictions. some were saying undefeatwed but alot of people were saying one or two losses if everything went right and we got all the breaks. wel we havent. yes the schedule is much weaker and the heart breaking losses the past two weeks were tough but i feel as though we are gaining so much experience through these losses. we are not getting blown out. we are in every game! that is the next step in progression. i am just as dissapointed in all of these losses because i am one of those fans who feels we have a shot every year to be champs. but i also feel charlie had to come in last year with nothing but freshman on his roster and a couple standouts from the previous year. he is rebuilding a program that was left barren. no depth at any postion and the o line was a joke. he is turning it around but we are still playing with kids at the skill positions and our recruiting the past two years has been stellar. let charlie do his job. i think he is building a legacy that will challenge the all time greats at nd. patcience is a virtue. we cant give up faith or hope. ya gotta believe. this university is built on faith we as loyal fans must have some too.

we are not getting blown out. we are in every game!

Did we watch the same game Saturday? I am just curious to know what part of the game we were in? lol

Do not get me wrong, I am whole hog Irish, but Saturdays game was the most pathetic I've seen this year. I certainly hope, God willing, we can turn this train wreck around this weekend and get going back on the straight and narrow again! GO IRISH!!!

What do you mean "Only 6?"

Haven't you ever had 6 before?!!

I remember the first time I had 6. Late December, back in '63. What a very special time for me. She was everything I'd dreamed she'd be. What a lady, what a night.

Ya know, I didn't even know her name, but things were never gonna be the same...

Sweet surrender...

Good points. I feel like I am back in parochial school being scolded by Sister Mary Rulerslap. Punctuation is not all that important in here is it?

At least the words are completely typed out and not abbreviated like a text message from a thirteen year old.

I say cut the posters some slack grammar police!

Point two is the key. Most of your playmakers are sophomores. Most others teams' are upperclassmen. Next season, many of these programs will be losing large numbers of starters, and trying to bring through the new guys. ND will return basically the whole team, I believe. That's a huge advantage.

You had a couple of mediocre classes following the Quinn/Samardzija group. This left you with a choice of mediocre players who've been in the program a while, and freshmen who weren't ready.

This season, those freshmen are sophomores, and you've seen a clear improvement. It seems obvious there should be further improvement next year.

If there isn't, then you look at the guy in charge.

the score was 17-0 right? all it would have taken was a pick 6 or a fumble recovery or clausen hitting a reciever on a go. we were in the game the whole time. our defense kept us there. was the offense absent yes but even so we were still in the game
